You need to have a pressure gauge the reads for R-22. (Freon) It sounds like the system might have a leak. Look for a wet place any place on the units pipe system. It has a little oil in with the freon that is forced out of any leak. If you see a wet place this is oil. It is also the location of your leak.

Hello, The frost does indicate that the system is low on freon.Thats what happens. After more time not enough freon is in the system to produce frost.

Like I said before you have a leak.Adding freon will only waste your money in the long run because you will have to add freon again after the leak is located and repaired.

My Carrier Home AC unit stopped blowing cold air today. I opened it up and cleaned everything and didn't notice anything out of place, any ideas?

This could be complicated to resolve over the internet but I'll give it a try. When you stated that it stoped blowing cold air, did it stop blowing air all together? Also is the outside unit rtunning?

Ac fan on, blowing air, but not cold

Check outside unit if unit and compressor are running feel the large line to see if it is cold. If compressor is running and line is not cold possible charge problems. You may have a capacitor problem outside. they go out quite often. You can change this yourself, Open up outside unit and the cap is the silver bullet with terminals out the top. Bad cap can cause compressor to not operate and also the fan. You need to clean the coil inside or at leat check the coil to see if it is clean. You can clean theis with a toilet brush do not go against the coil bit brush with the fins. You may need to call a service tech but try these options first. russ

Central air unit only blows warm air , when set on cold

First check to see if your outside unit is working and you can here the compressor running. If the fan runs and the compressor does not you have a problem with the capacitor or wires burnt off terminals. If your not sure you know how to work on this please call a service tech ask for free estimate. If the unit compressor and fan runs you may be out of gas that meanns you have a leak. Either way you need a service tech. You can only go so far without the correct tools to work with. Russ

Check your outside unit to see if fan is running. If it is running check to see if air is blowing out if not you have a bad capacitor. Some times if a capacitor shorts out the fan will run backwards and the line will get very hot same as if the fan is not running. Russ

My AC unit wont blow the cold air.

if the ac outside is working, but not the furnace, means there is a control problem with the furnace, check wires in the furnace, make sure there is a blower wire plugged into the contact marked cool on the control panel of the furnace

No cold air coming from the registers.

If your compressor is running outside (low hum noise) then your probably need freon .If the compressor is not running could be a bad cap or bad compressor

Unit not coming on. air isn't getting cold

First check the breakers for the condensing unit (outside unit) and the disconect outside by the unit (could be a breaker ,a pull off/on switch or fuses)If its ok , you should have 220 ,240 volts to the unit contactor (you'll see it after removing the cover on the condensing unit). When the termostat is in the cold position and the temperature its set is lower than the one inside the house the contactor should be pulled in and give power to the compresor and the fan.But if the termostat is in the cooldest set and the blower inside the house works and the contactor in the condensing unit is not pull in the problem is in the termostat or in the low voltage wire.

Clicking sound is the contactor engaging to start the outside unit. Check for a burnt off wire at the contactor. For some reason you are not getting power to the outside unit. If you find a burnt off wire shut off all power to it then remake the connection at the point of the circuit break.
