Question about Dymo LabelWriter 400 Thermal Printer

Labels Print Once Then Fail (3.5 X 1)

The printer will print one label then either push out a half a blank label or several blank labels. At that point the labewriter thinks it's out of paper. I also noticed that the labels tend to slide toward the middle while exiting. After each print I have to pull the labels back in and realign them. Then the process repeats.

This is a brand new labelwriter that I bought to replace the same brand writer that was having the same issue. So far I have reinstalled the software and replaced the USB cabel. Also noteworthy is that I used rubber rejuvenator on the rubber roller on the old one. That did not resolve the issue so I didn't try it on the new one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Nevermind. I fixed it.

I also have the problem that a message is given about 'Out of paper'. In my case this started from the moment that I was out of labels. That means the orignal role of labels, which was delivered with the printer when I bought it, I put in a new roll of labels (articleno. 99012) and from that moment on I got this message about out of paper.

So then I checked the original labels with the labels on the new roll. I found out a difference. This difference is that on the original label there are more than 1 black boxes on the back of the label. The biggest one is probably for marking the end of a label and to go on to the next. I don't know about the purpose of the smaller boxes (or evenmore big horizontal stripes in stead of boxes).

I've made a question on this issue to Dymo itself and I am now waiting for their answer.

This is because you haven't squeezed both sides of the spool to the edges of the label. Without the sides to hold the label in place it is free to slide about on the spool and therefore slides about where the print head and label sensor are. The sensor is on the left, so if it slides towards the middle the sensor can't see the label and reports "out of labels".

See the diagram here for a clear picture of how to correctly load the labels to avoid this problem:

I'm having a continual feed problem that I think is a dud printer. Re labels though, you'll find the Dymo 400 series printers with serial no# underneath of 93490 and 93491 can use plain labels, but the 93494 needs the black stripes. The black box does nothing, but the black stripes are necessary. I print rolls of these myself with another industrial printer and supply them to may people who use them in their 93494s no probs at all.

How do I print just one mailing label without running through an entire sheet time I print using an Epson LQ-590 and printing from the mail merge option in MS Word (MS XP)? In other words, when I print...

I assume you are using a sheet of labels, such as the typical 3 x 10 sheet. Word sets up the mail-merge document for printing the whole sheet, so if you print just one or two labels, you will `waste' the rest.
One way of using that sheet over is to create a mail merge that contains blank `dummy' addresses. It is rather involved and at best time consuming, and considered not worthwhile to save a partial sheet.
I service printers, and personally do not recommend that any label sheet be re-used. The printer curls the paper, in some cases fuses it, and causes the corners of the labels to be exposed, and possibly get caught in the printer (I have removed a lot of labels from inside printers)

Machine sends out blank labels when asked to print a label

I've had this problem several times and it seems that you need to push in the lock ring of the spool as far as you can tightly because if the end of each label is not seen by the sensors than it just keeps pushing the papaer out. Also make sure that there are no labels loose inside the machine that are covering the sensors.

TLP 2844 skips 15-16 labels then prints intended label

It sounds like they may need to set their "Q" values for the labels they are using.   If that isn't it, we may need more info - are they using Zebra brand or custom labels?
To start with, I would ask them to try adding these "Q" value commands: q456 Q152,24
If that doesn't work, then maybe they can provide the other info mentioned above so we can understand the problem better.

Printer keeps printing blanks...

We have found a reset that we use.
We unplug the printer and then we hold down the feed button and we keep holding down the feed button while we plug back in.
It goes through some sort of a reset and this sometimes works.
