Question about GE XL1800 1100 Watts Microwave Oven
The original surface lights burnt out and I tried to replace them with 20W GY8 bipin halogens as specified in the manual. The problem is that they won't stay in the ballast. It seems that there is nothing for the pins to hook into.
Be sure the oven is unplugged from the wall or you may damage the circuit board, and don't touch the bulbs with your bare fingers since skin oils shorten their life.
It's possible that the socket has overheated and crumbled and the sockets have slipped back out of reach. This would call for a new socket or harness.
