Power button stuck down for good

For a while I was under the imperssion the rechargable batteries I bought were faulty, as the power woudl sometimes immediately shut off.
Well that ended when the power button stuck down for good! Of course the 1yr warranty has now expired and I am forced to make the repairs.
I contacted Sony about this problem, and even mentioned it seems pretty common, wouldnt it then be classified as a defect making having a warranty irrelevant, not so much.
I was a told a flat diagnostic and repair rate of $111 is what had to be paid to have the camera functioning again.NOT WORTH IT at all considering the camera is $199!! I was planning to upgrade this winter to the 8.1 Sony, not anymore! I wont be buying a digital camera from them ever again!

Anyone know of a cheap fix rate

I have this same problem. I've had the camera for 3 years, and never had a problem until yesterday. The power button stuck down. leaving the camera on. Since I couldn't get it fixed, I decided I'd take out the batteries until I wanted to use it again. I put the batteries in 20 minutes later, and it wouldn't come back on.

I work for a photographer, so I took it in to have him see if he could fix it. He could not. He took the camera apart and said the shutter button and the power button are both connected to the same computer board. He saw no way to fix it besides sending to Sony. I haven't gotten an estimate yet, but my warranty and extended warranty have expired...I'm bitter about it!! They shouldn't have made that type of power button, and from now on I'll know to look for that.

If anyone gets a fix, let me know!!

Went to using my camera and all it does is beep and shuts down I have use cheaper battery's So i bought the Energizer Rechargeable Alkaline/Ni-mh and still nothing

Could be that your batteries do not have enough mAH? They should be at least 2600mAH. Any thing less than that tends to not have enough power to keep your camera on. I've used rechargeable batteries in the range of 1200mAH and they would not keep the camera on for more than a few seconds.
Try a hard reset by holding the power button down and removing the batteries at the same time, still holding the power button down go back and insert the batteries, it should reset it self in most cases? Another possible problem your camera might have is a stuck barrel lens, if it was dropped or has some sand in the lens gears, that could also make it shut down immediately.

Last year I bought my mom a digital camera for christmas. It worked great for about 2-3 months. Since then it is speratic, it will turn on let you take a couple of pictures then shuts down all by itsels....

Hi! Most digital cameras require outrageous amounts of power to work properly. Be sure to use only high quality, hi power ni-mh rechargeable batteries. Check for Sanyo Eneloop or Duracell. Sometimes we think the camera is broken, but in most cases is only insufficient amout of power. If you can't find the before mentioned batteries, look for 2500mA NI-MH type rechargeable batteries and a proper charger. Good luck!

Camera will not power on as if battery is dead ,(not battery )was working fine

Some cameras have a similar issue when the on off button gets stuck down caused by dirt or small sand particals tap on palm of hand in all axis and a cleaning with small amount of isopropal alcohol sometimes helps symptoms sound like need pro care/repair

Stuck on asus logo on startup??

Same problem here with my wife's Asus laptop. Called Asus and they said to unplug charger, remove the battery in the back, hold down the power button for 10 seconds. Then, replace battery, then charger, then press the power button and wait for startup. First time it got stuck at the windows loading bar screen for like 5 min. which is abnormal. Did a hard power down (press and hold power button til it shuts off) then restarted again. That time it worked and all is well so far. Could have been due to a static charge as she was on our couch with our dog backing up movies so charge might have entered through the CD/DVD drive opening. (?) Not sure, but if you are sitting on a static-prone couch with your laptop its probably best to sit on top of a bounce sheet.

Help with frozen lense

the lens is stuck out because there is incorrect battery connection. there is an option on the camera setting for the battery type. try this one:
-turn the camera on
-click on Menu button
-select options using left/right, up/down button
-select Set up 2
-Select Battery type
-Select Alkaline for non-rechargable
or Ni-MH for rechargable
-click OK button

this setting should be done when using camera for the first time and whenever you are switching battery types, from rechargable to non-rechargable and vice versa.

Power wont stay on

Remove batteru for a minute and insert it again. There is a Battery Type setting in the Menu of your camera.

Do the following:
- Press Menu/ Ok button
- Go to Set Up 2 (icon looks like a wrench with number 2 on it)
- Scroll down to Battery Type

Under Battery Type, there are two options:
- Alkaline- if you are using non- rechargeable battery
- NiMH- if you are using rechargeable battery
