Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I replaced a fuse that had blown and since then the receiver will turn on but shuts off after a few secondes. From reading the online info they say I need to do a reinitializing procedure but I cannot find out how to do this or if this will even fix the problem. AV-988

The reason why the fuse blew out is because the amplifier itself is shorted out. It turns off because amplifiers are designed to do that when it's overloaded. It needs to be serviced by a technician.

My vr-507 shut down to protect my speakers but will not power up now.

Sounds like the output transistors in the amp are blown. Try powering on without speakers attached - if it still shuts off your amp is blown and needs to be repaired.

Why does receiver turn on a few sec. then makes a click sound toward the back, shuts off

Unfortunately the audio outputs have been damaged, the repairs will run more than what you paid for it.

When I turn on the STAV-3770, after the five seconds for the inital click that is ready to go, the unit turns off and back on and keeps repeating this process.

Most of these units come with a replaceable fuse in the back (about the diameter of a penny). I believe that the unit will shut itself off if the fuse is blown. Excessive use, moisture or a power surge will blow the fuse. Radio shack may have a replacement for you to buy. I would try this first, as it is a fairly inexpensive solution. If it turns out that you have a more serious electrical problem with the unit, I would consider replacing it. The new 5.1 systems are cheaper than ever, more energy efficient and sound better to boot.

I tried hooking up an old polk sub to my yamaha rx-v659 av receiver. smelled wires burning smell. before i could unplug it, receiver shut down. now it will power up for about 5 seconds and shut off. manual...

If a fuse was blown, it likely would have no power. However if the power board has overheated, the capacitors may have swelled up and burnt out and will only allow it to power on for a few seconds, then shut down. The capacitors can look swelled up or burnt or have burn marks on the power circuit board. You can test them with a continuity meter. Each component has a printed number of it's voltage and ohm resistance so you can test them.

Look at inside at capacitor and fuse but they seem ok. again once i turn it on, it would automatically shuts off after a second.

When a system shuts down after a few seconds it is the self protect circuit shutting down power to the outputs to prevent (further) damage. It may be caused by frayed speaker wires, bad speaker voice coils, or blown output transistors. First, turn off power and remove all speaker wires from the receiver. Turn it back on and see if the problem remains. If it works OK, inspect each speaker wire at both ends for loose strands and correct these. Then, hook up your speakers one at a time until the problem reappears. That speaker or its' wiring is your problem. For safety's sake. turn the receiver off before connecting each speaker. An accidental short of the output terminals can be disastrous (and expensive).

Some water got into my Yamaha RX-V563 and it shut off. I tried to blow water out of it with an air can. It wasn't much. It will not turn back on. I tried to unplug it for a few minutes then turn it on,...

Firstly try blowing warm to hot air into it by using a hairdryer to make sure all the water is dried out & evaporated, thentry switching it on. If it still doesn't work then the input fuse may have blown & need replaced, if still no power then other components might have shorted especially the semi-conductors eg transistors/ diodes etc, you would need to check tham with a multi-meter & replace any that read short circuit. Water damage can be sometimes damage several components so check as much as you can.
