Firewall Issue: Maybe your firewall is blocking
the connection to your printer/scanner. Try allowing access to all applications
related to Dell or printer or communication systems under Program
Permissions in your Firewall program.
scanner failure is a hardawre problem. try to copy again and check if the scanner light is on. once the scanner light is not working then try to return your printer in the store that you have purchased it.
Use the software that came with the machine. A fax machine will appear as a printer in your printer folder. To get the scanner to work, you can use most software that you probably already have installed on your machine i.e. MS Works, Word, MS Paint, Corel by using the IMPORT from camera or scanner function on the software and choosing your Brother machine as the source.
ou need clean install . disconnect scanner remove all software in the
add/remove area and go to device manger and remove scanner form list.

I presume the print and fax parts work. Can you make a copy? Have you checked the driver software? The CD that came with the equipment usually installs the scanner software as well. try reinstalling the software and see if it works.
Need scanning software installed, go to brother web site and find full software and driver download package for your printer (under drivers) and install as instructed by program, you should unistall old driver setup first if enconting problems with new install, there is a uninstall on brother web site too
The issue can occure only when the HP printer is not gettting enough power supply or the scanner bulb is not getting heated up properly..
You can isolate the issue by directly connecting the printer to wall jack and powerup the printer and try to make a copy so that we can check the copy function as the copy,scannig and FAX use the same scanner bulb to performe all functions..
If the copy does'nt work try to lift the scanner lid and check if the scanner bulb is lit and the scanner machinasium is moving fine or not .. lift the lid and press scan button to check the functionality.
If the printer is connected to a surge protector or power strip this will some time fail to provide the required power supply to the printer so connect it to wall outlet and check with the issue..
There is also a FIRMWARE UPDATE RELEASED BY HP to fix the some of the scanner failure and receving faxes issue with HP 6110 All-in-one
