Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Power supply I have a Sony Vaio desktop model PCV-RS530G Computer. I up-graded the graphics card and need a more powerful power supply than the one supplied with the computer. I was told that the Sony Vaio PSU's are proprietary. Is there any way to upgrade this power supply? Evidently it's the size that's the problem. Thank you! JOhn Marcinzingle1@aol.com

Can I change my graphic card for another make, without changing my power supply

Totally. You just need to be mindful of the power demands of potential new card when choosing that card, selecting a graphics card with similar power rating. If it requires more power - then you may have to consider p.supply mods. If you are going to have to change one thing, then another to offset the first change (rob Peter to pay Paul), look at overall cost V. complete pc upgrade

Are there any video cards that you can use to upgrade the 530g? I have seen posts that the power supply is an issue. If it is possible is it a matter of installing the card and disabling the onboard...

Your pc has a special graphics expansion port - AGP x8

You can insert any graphics cards which will fit the port. Check carefully, there are quite a few different types of graphics port.

Once inserted, boot up the PC, and insert the disk you should get with the card, it will have all the relevant drivers.

There should be no need to alter the bios settings, the new card will be identified by the boot process.

If power supply does become an issue, you will need to upgrade the PSU (Power Supply Unit).

Can anyone tell me what the power supply is to a Sony PCV-RS411? I want to add a video card and some draw a lot of watts. Thanks

Most PSU's in factory built PC's (apart from Media centers and high end gaming rigs) are 230 watts, usually your graphics has certain requirements that are listed before you purchase if they have special power requirements.

I can just provide you the link where you can check the prices and the model itself. upgrading the power supply you can actually do that. specialy when you are not going to load hardware that has heavier power requirements then that's the time you need to upgrade the PS. Don't forget to get the model of the PS that you have. You can also visit any local computer shop. they can help you with this.

Replacing the powersupply on a Sony VAIO PCV-RS720G desktop

Hi There,

From the looks of things that model will take a standard ATX power supply which would be available from and computer part dealer and ebay etc, get yourself a nice 400w replacement try and get a small form factor one if you can as it will be a tight sqeeze inside the case.

when replacing it you will have to open the case up (get an anti static wristband if you can, and work on a table rather that a carpeted floor) un hook all the connectors the old power supply (one in each drive and there should be 2 in the motherboard) you may have to pull the Dvd rom out slightly to get the new supply in, unscrew the 4 case screws holding the power supply from the back of the case. lift it out then put in the new one, screw it in using the case screws and connect up the internal power cables to the drives motherboard and new graphics card, close the case, plug in and voila

If you get stuck just ask and we will help

tpically yes you can locate the number on your old power supply that represent the type and output and order a replacement at places like this link http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Description=power+supply
or perhaps if there is a computer repair place close, sometimes they have used ones from computers that has died
