Question about NetGear DG834G Router

Netgear DG834g routing issues

Hi,
I have recently bought a Netgear dg834g and configured to be the access point of my home office. I have three computers attached to it: one apple macbook, one apple macmini and an acer aspireone.
Each computer works perfectly and I can surf the net.
The problem is that after a while, the router stops routing traffic in the local network so I cannot see the other computer. I cannot ping them...
If I restart the router, everything starts working again... for a while...

What can it be?

Thanks in advance

Hi, thanks for the answer. I actually already upgraded the firmware to the latest available, and I am using DHCP with reserved addresses. I would be reluctant to use static IPs, since I want to solve the issue with the router, not give up on the services I paid for.... :(
I'll be happy to rate you the max, if we do progress, be sure!

    Hi anandg27,
thanks for your help. Can you please explain to my why it should help? Currently, everything works no problem if I restart the router. After a while, it looks like the router stops correctly routing internal IPs. What does this has to do with the router/AP configuration?

    Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi,

Upgrade the firmware on the router. If possible assign static IPs on the computers.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

    Hi,

Is there any specific reason if you have configured this router to work as an access point. Does this router works when you use it as an actual router.

Well, then it seems that you are using this router as an actual router and not as an access point. I would suggest you to reset the router and then reconfigure it.

    Reset using the steps below:

At the back of the router you will find a small tiny hole (which has a small button inside it). Press the button with the help of a paper clip. Press it and hold it from 30 seconds and after 30 seconds without releasing the reset button take out the power cable from the router and wait for 20 seconds. After 20 seconds, without releasing the reset button plug the power cable back to the router and keep holding the reset button for another 30 seconds. Now, release the button and take out the power cable wait for 5 seconds then plug it back.

Now reconfigure the router and check if that helps.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

Connect a LAN cable from the Netgear to the LAN port on yourcomputer, open a browser and enter the Netgear configuration URL -
http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = password You can now change the admin password and configure thewireless settings.
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption.

i dont believe you can do such thing but you could run two routers and log onto each individually. Just like your at home using the laptop and you go to a friends 20 miles away and you take your laptop and it will recognize his wireless allowing access.

Can't get internet access through NetGear DG834G Router

You have to configure your router...

If your ISP provided you with IP Address, enter the assigned IP address, subnet mask, gateway IP address anbd DNS IP address for your broadband router.

If you connect to the Internet using an xDSL Modem and your ISP has provided you with a Password and a Service Name, then your ISP uses PPPoE to establish a connection. You must enter the required information.

Hope this could help..
