May be you have problem with the Evaporator fan motor not running, defrost heater, defrost timer, open gap on door gasket and bad thermostat (cold control), it may kept the compressor constantly running. Good luck.

Frezzer still cold but fridge not so cold?

I would need the make and model number in order to try and locate a schematic. If the freezer is cold but the fridge side is not remove the rear panel on the inside of the freezer on the back wall there are a couple screws that hold the panel in place most refrigerators this is how you gain access to the evaporator coil. Once you remove the panel you would then look for any ice build up on the evaporator coil. If you did have any ice build this is termed as a defrost issue in which the ice needs to be defrosted with a hair dryer completly. The defrost issue is caused from a fault condition with the defrost thermostat, the defrost heater, the adaptive control or the defrost timer depending on which you unit uses. If you have ice build up in this area message me back and I will instruct how to fix and test which part is defective. If you had no ice build up then you would next look above the evaporator coil to the evaporator fan and assure that the motor is spining. If it were then you would go into the refrig side of the unit and acess the damper door or diffuser door and assure that the door is opening and closeing properly. If you had no issue with the door mentioned you would then look at the tempreture control in you unit which is behind the knob that you set your refrigerator side to become colder. I will await your reply as to your finds before posting my solution. If you have any questions message me those back as well. Thank you
Rick

Hello, click this link http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/frame_diagram.aspx?diagram_id=28506759&pkw_=basket&model_id=41512&NewWindow=1 you would first remove the rear panel on the inside rear floor of the freezer. Once you removed this panel this would give you access to the evaporator coil. Located above the evaporator coil is the evaporator fan which has a small motor on it. Also if you noticed you had any ice build up on the evaporator coil this is termed as a defrost issue. You would need a mulitmeter and to perform a continuity test on the defrost thermostat and the defrost heater and if both of those showed continuity then you would test the defrost timer. Usually the evaporator coil is found behind the vertical rear wall but on some from viewing the positioning of the coil it looks like it is under the floor panel inside the freezer click this link http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/frame_diagram.aspx?diagram_id=28506759&pkw_=basket&model_id=41512&NewWindow=1
35 is the defrost thermostat and 32 is the heater. From the sound of what you have described with the water issue you may have ice covering the drain line which is located under the evaporator coil. Any ice build up on the coil or below it you would have to defrost with a hair dryer. Usually if I find a customer has a drain freeze up issue I would also if the heater tested positive before I put the unit back together I would wrap a piece of silver solder wire around the heater and point that down the drain hole this way there would be no further freeze up. Most of the time that I do have to fix this issue 85% of the time it is due to the defrost thermostat. If your fan is also not working then the cold air is not able to go into the refrigerator. The freezer is the only area in a refrigerator that produces cold. If you have any further questions message me back. Thanks Rick

I have a sub zero side by side. The refrig side is at 40 degrees but a 10 inch by 6 inch piece of ice keeps forming on the left size, back wall. What would be the likely cause of the ice build up??

Hello,

Their are 2 possible things causing the ice build up

1) the condenser coils is very dusty and must be cleaned,to clean it remove the top grill and the smaller panel behind the grill, use a vacuum to clean all the dust from the coil

2) the evaperator coil in the refrig. behind the back wall has a small refregrant(freon) leak in it and the coil needs to be replaced

I hope thats its due to the upper coil needing to be vacuumed since its something you can do at no cost, but even if it doesnt fix the problem the coil needs to be cleaned to help both the freezer and fresh food section work more efficently
if after cleaning the upper (condenser) coil and turning off the fridge to melt is away ice build up from (evaperator)coil,if the ice ball reoccurs the repair could be as much a $1,000.00 to replace the coil and recharge the refrigerant

Hi i have model sb540w and the fridge doesnt get cold enough but the freezer is fine called an engenier and he did not understand wat the probs was as the fan works at the back.

Your unit has one condensor unit, so if the freezer side is freezing, then the problem has to be in the freezer section.

First check to make sure that the fan is operating in the unit. If it isn't then it is probably the fan, BUT maybe not bad so hold off replaceing it. If the fan is working then you probably, have a defrost problem - when the defrost assembly stops working ice build up behind the rear panel in the freezer compartment so the thermostat gets a false reading and won't send tell the fan to kick on to send cold air to the refrigerator section.

So you will need to take the food out of the freezer, remove the shelves, remove the inner rear panel in the freezer compartment and look for ice build up. If you find it, then you can either unplug and leave the door open to defrost or use a hair dryer to hurry the defrost up - DON'T USE HOT WATER!

Once defrosted, you can dry the unit out and then turn it back on, use your make and model number to order the defrost assembly, but you can use your refrigerator and freezer until it arrives.

My 5 year old GE GSH22JSRSS Stainless Steel Side by Side Refrigerator recently stopped cooling. I noticed a build up of frost on the freezer, so unplugged the fridge and let the ice melt away. After this,...

The problem you describe is that your defrost circuit has failed. The fridge should stop the compressor periodically and turn on the defrost heater to melt the frost buildup. Since the frost in building up on your coils, the fan can't blow the cold air into the fridge compartment. It defrost is controlled by a module that turns on the heater. Most of these failures have to do with the defrost heating element burning out. It can be replaced by someone who has some mechanical ability.

The coil and heater is located in the back of the freezer compartment behind the panel in the back. You can obtain parts from appliance repair outlet or online like appliancepartspros.com or repairclinic.com.

Kenmore elite trio refridgerator with an error code ER FF

ER FF is "Error Freezer Fan." Once the evaporator fan stops turning for more than 115 seconds, this error message2.gif will be displayed. This fridge2.gif is poorly designed and is not designed with air gaps or enough air gaps to allow air behind the back panel of the freezer2.gif where the fans and condenser coils are located thus causing ice to build up around the fan and it's ability to spin. The evaporator fan helps circulate the cold air generated by the condenser coils.

The fix is (1) defrost your refrigerator2.gif which means you'll loose all your food if you don't have another unit to keep the food in until it's done defrosting or (2) to dismantle the entire freezer by removing all the trays and railing so that you can pull the back panel far enough to get the front end of a hair dryer over the top lip of the panel to melt the ice. My unit had ice build at the top right and left corners behind the panel. I opted for the latter and didn't have to throw any food away.

Good luck

This is going to be an annual chore if I want to keep this refrigerator. We should all ban together and call for a recall.

Good Luck

Warm fridge cold freezer

Hi,advance thermostat setting, to get colder , it's possible you got defrost problem, is there excessive ice building inside back of freezer? to determine if you have a defrost problem, unplug ref. for about an hour, let it defrost, let all ice melt away, it's better to remove your produce, keep doors open to speed up defrosting, after defrosting and cleaning plug back your ref, and let it work for another hour, and check result, if it's o/k, put back your produce, let me know, during hot summer months, regular use (opening) of ref, could cause excessive ice build-up evap. if after defrosting and cleaning ref. work good for 3 to 4 days, but start doing the same thing, let me know, it means you got a defrost problem. also check your thermostat, but first defrost and clean it, that could just be your problem. good luck.

Fridge problem

you have a defrostion issue reed to remove the back panel in the freezer behind this panel is the evaperator coil needs to be melted down because it is full of ice and frost, ahair drier will work well, put several towells down under the bottom of the evaperator to catch water runoff, after defrosting the coil inspect the defrost heater or heaters some of these can have one or two heaters the heaters are located behind metal gaurds in the evaperator if either of the heaters are bad (both)need to be replaced, if they show good then bad defrost timer or bad defrost termination thermastat wiring diagram behind frount bottom grill
