Question about ASUS A7V8X Motherboard

1 Answer

Presario SR1030NX - with a ASUS A7V8X-LA motherboard, won't boot.

Hello. I have a Presario that has a ASUS A7V8X-LA motherboard. My problem is that it won't boot. I don't even get a screen. All the lights are on and the fans are running but I noticed the the hardrive indicator light on the front panel stays on even though the drive isn't connected to the board. I've tried taking all the connections loose and even removing the processor and the battery. But with no success. I don't think that the board is dead because the pc was booting fine but then one day it just stopped. I did change hard drives some time ago. What are some additional steps I could take to resolve the problem?

Thank you so much for responding.

Okay, sounds like the board is dead. What model replacement board do you suggest?

Thank you so much for responding.

Okay, it sounds like it would be best to replace the board. Is there a board you would recommend?

I have an HP a500n Pavilion desktop.. 2 1/2 years old..... haven't done anything fancy but last week, the monitor went black... re-boot didn't work.. the machine was booting normally by the sound of the hard drive but black screen... pulled the power plug from monitor and left it out overnight... pulled the power plug from CPU... tried a number of combinations of plug out/in and eventually monitor began to work....machine ran well till one time this week monitor again went "blind".. tried pulling the power plug and left it out for a minute or so. re inserted plug.. now monitor is ok...motherboard is ASUS A7V8X-LA with 1 gb RAM...please advise.. thanks in advance for your time..modelships

I have been told by my serviceman that I have the same dead mother board problem. He wants $200 plus to a comuter over 4 years old.

Is the ASUS A7V8X a direct replacement without having a bios or other problem with the existing components??

    Any help greatly appreciated. Lloyd

    Getting message:

    Detecting Floppy drive a: media...

Drive A error . system halt

Continues beeps, can't get into bios.

Battery test @3.2 volt Im thinking it is a bad MB but wonder if it is worth replacing.

Presario S6500NX just quit booting up. When turning power on everything just flashes on then immediately goes dead. The HDD and Power Supply are good. The MB is just dead.

Those are notoriously bad boards. i have worked on 2 or 3 of those boards and founds its adefect on some voltage regulator on motherboard..
best thing u can do is upgrade motherboard and cpu and ram in a combo.. don't forget power supply unit, new stuff needs at least 350watts

its an amd 462 best place to get lucky is due to the age of socket A aka 462 make sure it supports fsb 333 at least
and its microatx or it wont fit heightwise i case. or get a c ase and board and transfer stuff then repair windows over it.

Sata unable to recognize my book 500gb

The A7V8X-LA motherboard only supports SATA1. Your new hard drive is likely SATA2 (SATA-II). You'll likely need to change jumpers on the drive to make it compatible with SATA1.

It's a tiny bit slower than SATA2 (okay, twice as slow). But, it's still faster than PATA (IDE).
