Mildew smell on GE ESXH208

I know other people have had this issue but can't seem to figure out how to clean MY type of unit. There aren't any panels on the front that (it would seem) like I can take off to see if I can clean the tube. Any ideas?

Thanks!

A good dose of Soda Crystals dissolved in hot water put into the machine and then ask it to do a very hot wash without any clothes in.

Place a small amount of crystals into the soap dispenser as well

You also need to try using an old fashioned soap powder such as Daz for a few weeks

Finally leave the door slightly open when you have finished washing so that the machine ahs a chance to dry out inside

Mitsubishi electric Mr Slim wall unit heat and air. strange smell coming out when air is on, we cleaned filters, but do not know where the heat exchange is or the the fan to clean them

Ductless split systems are know for creating a mildew looking "stuff" on the blower wheel. Try to open/move the louvers on the front of the indoor unit. By opening the "osculation blade"/louvers, you can see the blower wheel, normally blue in color. See if it has some mildew growing on it. If so, I found that a tooth brush and about 2 hrs labor does some good. I've found some aerosol spray, called mildew removal. Works great at covering up/controlling the smell. It's also possible that the unit is pulling air from the condensation drain line. These lines can for algae, and give us a sour yuck smell. To clean, use a wet vacuum, and clean from the outlet of the drain line. Hope this helps!

We have a very foul in our mobile home, and we think it is coming from our empire heater! is there anything we can do to fix this odor

Oder doesn't seem to be electrical smell or you would know a house fire may occur. We normally know the electrical smell I'm worrying you about, and if it is that, do not use it and call a professional! It may be mildew in the unit or in the ductwork. Mildew is quit common, mold is not. No one LEGALLY can tell you it's mold unleased certified by you state or province. Mildew can grow anywhere we have a warm surface that comes in contact with a cold surface. This means uninsulated ductwork, or aged ductwork. The unit itself can also produce some mildew due to lack of maintenance. And also, water can get inside the duct for many reasons if you have cooling. If water is trapped it can produce "growing" stuff and a smell. Varmints can also cause this, either by dying inside the unit/duct or by leaving their droppings, to say it nicely. Temporary fix is what we call in Texas a Odor Cake. These are sold at the HVAC parts houses. Come in a little Tupperware style cup, and are mainly used for fire, smoke, and mildew damage to a structure. You just set em inside the airflow and the help, but don't solve the issue. If mildew is present inside the unit, have a tech out to inspect/clean. And a ultraviolet light may be needed to help control the growth. Internet U.V. Light for HVAC to study on them. Hope this helps!

Fusty fishy smell coming from saniflo unit

Dean:

You need to check and see if the unit cycles immediately after you flush. After that, try tapping on the outside of the unit with you hand (thump it) to see if the unit will cycle again. If it does, it is not emptying completely. The issue is then with the air cycle valve.

If it seems to be cycling ok, go to Home Depot or Lowes and look for the Zep (Brand) enzyme drain cleaner. Put the enzyme cleaner down the sink (if one is connected) and let it sit for 24 hours. This will help clean out any sludge in the unit. You might try the enzyme treatment once a week for a month and see if that helps.

Normally, I have found the smell comes from the units not cycling properly and completly emptying the units to the proper level. They stay overfull and generate the smell.

If its the air cycle valve, let me know and I will tell you how to address that issue.

Smells like mold or mildew

Wash an empty load with bleach. This may wash out mold or mildew stuck in the water lines and pump. If it seems to help, do it again.
This is for internal issues.
If the problem is external, the machine may just need a good cleaning.

I have a Kenmore 'Elite' front loading washer that stinks

Have you been leaving the door cracked open after washing a load? If not, mildew will form and smell. If you have, then it would be something else. Respond with any questions.

Try two things: Add several cups bleach to the tub and run it a complete cycle. When not in use, leave the door open so it will air out.

Air conditioner

There is no filter, this smell is caused by mold/mildew in the system from normal condensation from the AC evaporator core, you can try Lysol, spray at the air intake in front of the windshield for about 20 seconds, turn of the system and let it set overnight, this will cure the problem for a few months, then you will have to treat it again, as the mold will regrow in the moist environment of the AC air distribution box.

GE WASHING MACHINE GE PROFILE

There is a product out there called Affresh. It is a tablet that can be used on all front loaders that do not have a Clean Cycle. It works great. It comes three tables to a bag. You should use all three the first time that you do this. After that, once a month is all that is needed. Two suggestions to help eliminate the smell and mildew. One, keep a wash rag handy and wipe up any water that remains in the door seal. Second, leave the door open for a day so that the washer can air out. This applies to all front loaders, not just GE, that do not have a Clean Cycle. Also, water sometimes stays in between the inner and outer tub. This water can become stagnant and create mildew, mold, and odor problems. I hope this helps!!! -The Appliance Braniac
