I have a poulan 4218 chain saw will start but when i pull throttle it dies, open gas cap and gas sprays out

There is a air/fule ratio valve on the side of the carbarator it's adjustable with a flathead screwdriver. Turns this all the way in clock wise then back it out 1 1/2 turns counterclockwise. Once the equipment starts you may have to make some slight adjustments. For a person that dose not know making these adjustments can be difficult. One tip I can give is once it starts you should hear a trickling sound that sound normally means it's in its correct adjustment.
Check a few thing before you do any adjusting.
Check that your exhaust is not clogged dirt dobbers tend to make nest in the small hole.
Check that the fule filter and lines are in good working condition.
Check spark plug or replace.
And replace any old gas. Gas these days has a poor quality and shelf life. Gas that goes beyond 30days should be replaced. Also try to buy non Ethanol gasoline

also check the air filter. If these things check out ok then proceeded with the adjustments. If it still won't run correctly you may need to clean the carberator. Let me know if you need any additional help.

I’m happy to assist further over the phone at

Car won't start.No spark.

You'll need a repair book or shop manual to check the circuits going to the coils. Could be a relay, crank or cam sensor, or wiring problem.

I have a poulan pro 4218 it was running great when i put it away last year . went to start it this year put in fresh fuel i have a spark used starting fluid doesnt even try to start what gives?

If there is good fuel in the tank and there is a good spark, there is only two reasons why it will not fire up, the ignition timing is out ( sheared flywheel key ) or there is too little compression ( engine has seized at some time trapping the rings )

I replaceed spark plug, and still on spark. Whats next? (poulan 4218) chainsaw

Remove the flywheel side cover to expose the flywheel and ignition module. Check the flywheel magnets to ignition module gap with a thin business card for a gauge. If ok, remove the grounding wire that goes to the ignition switch and try for spark again. If still nothing, it's new module time. If removing the grounding wire got it to spark, replace the ignition switch or perhaps the grounding wire has shorted out on it's way to the ignition switch. Hope this helps!

Poulan saw wont start has spark and fuel

Look for a pinched/bare stop-switch wire (I assume that you don't have spark now). Also, check the ignition coil core gap to the flywheel magnets (I use card stock to set the gap). Make sure the plug wire was not damaged again.
