well you have to remove the pics already in the memory. Generally this can be done by downloading them to the PC then selecting the "Rubbish Bin" icon in menu and asking it to delete individuals or all.
If that model has an adjustable screen (you can turn tilt it) then this is an easy repair as all the connectors are in the display. If it doesn;t you will have to take the back of the case off. Then 4 small screws on the display and a ribbon connector.There are manuals but are very hard to find for some models. Fortunetly Canon sort of builds all of them the same inside so if you can find anything through google or bing it might show you enough.

Have you tried the 'Menu' button? If you've turned off 'Review' in the settings menu, the screen doesn't show anything after you take a picture. If the screen doesn't come on when you push the 'Menu' button with a charged battery installed, your camera will need to be repaired.
