Motherboard BIOS Hi, My computer is built around a Samsung motherboard which, since yesterday stopped working suddenly. Now, when I power on the pc Only SAMSUNG LOGO ( fullscreen ) appears then a single beep and nothing happens further. When RAM is removed , it gives error beep. I think this means BIOS is working atleast partially. Unfortunately , I never backed up the BIOS nor kept the information of motherboard. Fortunately one of my friend had the same mptherboard and assuming that both the motherboards are same ( as they are in appearance ) , following is the information retrived. System Manufacturer SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO.,LTD System Model M4700 System Type X86-based PC Processor x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 3 GenuineIntel ~651 Mhz BIOS Version PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0 06WW Chipset is Intel 82810. Can u help me? UVG

Hi, your motherboard and Bios settings are both ok.
The problem is most likely your hard drive. I reccomend you check this by pressing the delete key repeatatadly at start up to enter the bios settings. at the first screen you should see if your hard drive is recognised [ primary master]. It may be time for a new drive or for a reinstall of your operating system.

Suddenly stopped working ,won't restart my PC?

First of all disconnect all peropheral connected to your motherboard. Take out Your RAM and clean it with soft clothe. Reinsert ram and restart your PC. If you can get display at this point then shut down your PC connect all peripheral back and restart your PC.

If not you will need to replace your ram.

My desktop suddenly suspended, switched it off by pressing the power button. Now it does not boot, the screen stays dark, though power lights on the PC and keyboard are on. What should I do?

You are the owner of a desktop PC that has developed a sudden and catastrophic hardware
fault - probably on the motherboard (since even the ROM BIOS doesn't give evidence of its
existence), but possibly in the power supply.

Desktop PC power supplies are (relatively) easily replaceable, so if you have as many spare
power supplies lying around as I do, try replacing that first - if that doesn't fix the system, then
the problem is on the motherboard.

Since your power supply is alive enough to light the power LEDs on the system unit tower and
also the keyboard, the problem is probably on the motherboard - look at it - there may be an obviously burned visible component - but there usually is no visible sign of the fatal failure.

The reason I do not suspect your HDD (hard disk drive) has crashed is that ROM BIOS
executes at (power start) boot time right out of motherboard-mounted ROM, independent of
whether or not the HDD is functional - and since not even the BIOS message appears on your monitor, I therefore know that the boot sequence has been interrupted long before the computer becomes intelligent enough to find and access a disk drive, and then command it to try to find a
boot sector.

How to fix the computer: isolate the boot problem to the motherboard. Replace motherboard.

I tried yesterday 6-7 times to turn it on

Hard to deduce but it could be a issue with the BIOS/CMOS chip too. Is the Vaio still under warranty ? If no then unfortunately, would need to have it checked again at the service center and follow those guys :(.
If its showing past time than that indicates (1) the CMOS battery is dead (2) Motherboard circuitry has issues.

When i try to trun on my computer the fan doesnt stop so nothing goes to the screen

Sounds like the power supply or the motherboard. If you have another computer available, you can test the power supply. Just "borrow" the power supply from the other computer. If it still won't come on, then the motherboard might be bad and you'll need replacement.

If you swap the power supply and the motherboard is bad, you will not hurt the working power supply. The motherboard is already dead and won't feed back to the working power supply.

Also, if you have flashed your BIOS recently and it has not completed successfully, you might have a dead motherboard and you will need to replace it. You would know if you flashed or updated your BIOS chip.

I have the same problem with my T3120 emachine.

could be a 'gray market' machine! i've run into this before- basically 'your motherboard/bios' doesn't exist- good luck! boot up should show what your bios version is, look for that, rather than your motherboard version!
'my computer'- 'properties'- should have your bios info on it. use that info to find updated 'flash', if it's available.
good luck!

Pc won't power up

if you've tried other power supply's and are positive that the power button is connected properly and are getting nothing, no beep no lights no fans, then you got yourself a bad board.
