Hello Friend, Your solution is very simple. I beleive that you need to replace the motor coupler. It's easy to replace the motor coupler on your machine. First, remove the two screws that hold control panel in place and tilt back exposing the two metal clips that hold the cabinet in place. You will see some wires plugged into the cabinet, just unplug them. There are two clips, one on each side. Just pop these clips off and lift cabinet slightly from back and tilt forward. At this point you will be able to completely remove the cabinet. Once you have cabinet removed just set it aside. Now, just lay the washer on it's back. At this point you will see the water pump, motor, and transmission. Remove the pump by snapping off the two spring clips. The pump will slide right off the motor shaft. Now, remove the two screws that hold the two spring clips attached to motor. Unplug all the wires etc. and then snap the metal clips off motor. Lift motor straight up, it should slide right off. Now you will see the motor coupler. Half of the coupler is on the transmission shaft and the other half is on the motor shaft. There is a rubber center connector ring that connects the two together. Just remove the old coupler pieces by prying under them with slotted screwdriver and replace with new ones. Re-assymble the washer and the problem you are encountering should be solved. Happy to help, Tim. And please don't forget to give me your rating for my help.

My washer is making a loud nosie when agitation starts

That is a normal sound when the transmission shifts from the last spin cycle to go into the agitate cycle. It should make a loud click sound that does not last longer than a second. There is nothing wrong with your washing machine.

Washer makes grinding/loud sound and will not agitate-spins fine

Look under the washer. Is there a little pile of black rubber shavings? This sounds like the basket coupler between the motor and the drum. If the coupler is the problem it is inexpensive to fix. Some also call this part the "clutch". It kind of looks like a hockey puck with six holes in it... three for the motor, three for the clothes drum. In your case, I suspect that the holes are intact in the direction of spin, but as soon as it reverses for agitation, it breaks out through the back of the holes.

I own a whirlpool top loading washer - under 2 years old. it stopped draining water and spinning. replaced the timer and now it works fine, but now when the washer finishes spinning, the agitator stops...

depending on your exact mode;
sounds like a brake, or a clutch
those are really only two parts it could be
on the whirlpool the brake is part of the transmission on the direct drive

Knocking noice in agitation cycle

Do you get same sound if you run through a wash cycle empty (no clothes?) using detergent? If so, then likely a basket support has come loose (check deep inside along top ring). If not, then you may be overloading washer (unless using different sized loads), or the agitator is not working like it should, and basket is torquing.

Basket won't move-noise

do you notice if it agitates?
if it doesnt agitate it is just a simple coupling
if it is making a humm noise its the motor
if a LOUD rumble ONLY on spin cycle, its the basket drive assembly and the clutch.

Front loading washer basket is loose and pump is making noise

The loud sounds you hear when the washer is on is coming from 5 possible sources 1. unbalance wash load, 2. a washer that is not level, 3. a broken agitator, 4. a blockage in the water pump, and 5. a worn transmission.

Solution, balance your load, level your washer, removed the hoses from the water pump to remove any blockage. If these solutions don't solve the problem contact a service provider to service your agitator and or your transmission.

Good luck

Kenmore 80 series top loading washer won't agitate and is noisy

Sounds like u may have broken the coupler gear between the motor and transmission... the replaced the belt with these gears on this model... But should go fill & pumb water out and NOT spin Or agitate... IF these gears or broke or stripped... heavy loads like u  said would do this... recheck and see if wash will pumb water out But will NOT agitate or spin.. IF so the above is your problem  and is Not to hard to repair  or much money

Below is a pic with the motor remove the white piece in the middle is 1/2 of the gear system with a rubber piece in the middle (not there)  and another like gear on the motor
sounds like these gears may be broken or stripped on your washer
