Problems video recording using the Sony HDR-FX1

Keep getting error message C:31:42, now every time I insert the mini dvd video it tells me to "reinsert tape"
I tried using the MINI DVD Cleaner and the message appears again reinsert tape"
I noticed once I insert the tape into the cassette holder, it moves very slow.
this problem all began when I recorded an event and parts of the video recording were not recorded at all -even though the tape was in the record mode. Need immediate help! Please.

Take the battery out and turn selection switch to camera and then turn it off. Put the battery back in and its working again.
if that doesn't work try
Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times.

C31:42 means that the camera was not able to control the mechanism
during a short test as f.e. rotating the reels, small turn of the
capstan and drum head You must make a visual inspection on these
    partsand control moves.

These are common for all types and model mini-dv camera but also on HI8 camera's from Sony

I'm copying what I've wrote there:
I had the same C:31:42 error
on my DCR-TRV725E. Suddenly, out of nowhere, it started. On every
cassette, sometimes with few seconds disturbed playback or few seconds
of rewind/forward. I searched the Internet and found this forum. People
here said that the solution was to take the camera apart and put it
back together - well, it WORKED !!! I took out all the screws I could
see (except the ones near the LCD). Note the two different screws near
the button panel opposite the LCD screen. I pulled out the front of the
camera, and then separated it into two parts in the middle all the way
from the lens to the battery. In the cassette compartment "area" I only
took out the plastic cover (didn't touch the screws of the mechanism
inside). Be careful on the cables connecting all those parts. The
camera was disconnected into 4 parts (lens, left with LCD, right with
cassette compartment and battery, the 4th is this small i.Link cover on
top aside). The ONLY thing I touched was this small transparent purple
stick near the middle of the cassette compartment - just near the drum.
I cleaned it a bit with ear cleaner. I don't know if this did the
trick, but that was the only thing I can think of. Then, when the
camera was all wide open, I connected the battery, inserted a cassette
    - and it worked. I felt like in terminator 2 when the robot comes back
alive. I saw that the tape is rolling and not stopping and beeping, I
could not look through the eyepiece since I had to hold all the parts
in my hand, so my girlfriend looked. I put all the pieces together and
it still worked. I could record and playback. All this disassembling
and assembling happened 2 hours ago. God bless the Internet :)

Problems recording from soundesk

Hi,

The signal from a sounddesk is a line signal. On the bottom of your Bechtek are 3 dip switches. You have to set switch 1 and 3 to line level. That should work.

DCR-DVD108 Problem

It's the disc not the camera......I purchased a 3 pack of Sony DVD-R discs. I put the first disc in and it recorded once. The next time I tried to record I got the message "movie recording disabled". After calling Sony, searching online, resetting the camera and reading through the manual I replaced the disc with another from the 3 pack and it is recording just fine. I read that recording straight to DVD has many problems, and I believe this is one of them. SONY SUCKS!!!!!
