There is a fairly major issue occuring right across the board at this very moment with the PSN Network. Some consoles are not synching properly and causing problems like you describe.

For a full breakdown please see this FixYa Tip.

If the solution helps, please leave a vote for it. Many thanks.

When i go to sign in to playstation network it tells me an error has occured and i have been signed out of playstation network

The PlayStation Network is down at the moment. Sony Entertainment is working on this. There is nothing wrong with your system.
From the PSN - "While we are investigating the cause of the Network outage, we wanted to alert you that it may be a full day or two before we're able to get the service completely back up and running. Thank you very much for your patience while we work to resolve this matter."

Regards, Tony

Receiving error message - An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStationNetwork. (8002A220)

Getting kicked out of the Play Station Network, just off the top of my head, someone could be using your account and is logged in right now. Therefore kicking you off every time you log on.

Other than that, you could preform a hard reset. Here are instructions.

Hard Reset procedure for the PS3 Be sure to backup your settings/games saves by doing a System > Backup on your PS3 or you may lose your game saves! Also, this is a last resort procedure prior to exchanging/returning to sony.
1. Power Off the PS3 via the power switch in back and power back on w/switch.
2. Hold Power Button on the Front until you hear 3 beeps.
3. Then go through the initial setup and then run a full Format via System > Format. (will take approx 3 1/1 hours). You may need to have our AV cables ready if your using HDMI (in case HDMI isn’t detected after initial reset).
4. Restore your backup you made prior to doing factory/hard reset (optional, if you created a backup).

Hopefully if there is or was any type of virus it will defiantly be removed. If there is some other type of problem having to do with the hardware, then you are going to have to send it to Sony for a replacement.

Cant get online

might be a router issue, specifically the firewall. you might wanna click on network (ing) and select the router. See if you can manually add the ps3's address as a local access point on your router/ modem. you can access the ps3's ip address in system info, which i'm sure you know. maybe take the firewall down temporarily, by setting it to off, to see if this is blocking the ps3 from accessing the network. does the ps3 need any more configuring, vis a vis the network configuration? Do you need to subscribe to the PS network to access it? I don't have a PS3, but my psp works fine, as well as my 360. Try this and tell me if it works out, or if you need any other clarifications for arising issues. and remember to enable the firewall back up whether or not it works.
