Has the washer been out of service for all that time or you're just stating that it's that old?

The first thing to do is to CHECK IN AND AROUND THE RUBBER DOOR BOOT (called a bellow) for small articles of clothing (like socks and underwear) that may have gotten lodged in behind the rubber. Pull the rubber back where it meets the wash tub and look behind it. It is common for small items to get stuck here, become forgotten and start to mildew. You should check this area after each wash and clean it periodically to get rid of the formation of soap scum, mold, and mildew. HINT: When you get ready to wash a load of towels, take a dirty towel and clean the door boot thoroughly (including the areas behind the rubber). Immediately place the towel in the wash and run it on a sanitary cycle. This way you eliminate the need for cleaning rags.

PERIODICALLY RUN THE WASHER ON A CLEANING CYCLE. Place the washer on the hottest setting you have (usually a Sanitary cycle) with nothing but bleach in the wash tub. Some newer models actually have a "Clean Cycle" available now just for this purpose. This helps keep the wash tub, drain lines and pump sanitized.

CHECK AND CLEAN THE DRAIN PUMP FILTER. Accumulations of debris in the drain pump filter can also cause odors. HINT: If you own a shop vac, pull the drain hose from the standpipe at the wall and pull a vacuum on the line. This will drain any residual water left in the tub, pump and drain lines BEFORE you remove the drain pump cover. This will prevent a messy clean up later.

LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN IF POSSIBLE. When not in use, leave the door open to allow the tub to air out and to keep mold and mildew from forming on the door bellow. I know this may not be desirable in some households with small children. If too much mildew forms on the rubber and it cannot be removed, replacement of the bellow may be required.

NOTE: This problem is common with front loader style washing machines. The doors on these machines have an air tight/water tight seal that is great for sealing the washer during the wash cycle, but can be terrible for collecting small garments and for not allowing the tub to properly air out when not in use. Following these simple preventive measures can go a long way towards preventing harmful mold and mildew, and towards extending the life of the door bellow and pump.

I have a huge problem with my wash mach of mold build up on the rubber and smelly clothing as a result

If You Can't Remove The Rubber To Clean It. Get Bleach, Simple Green Or Ajax. Get A Paint Brush, Dip It Into Any Of The Cleaning Agents And Brush It On The Rubber. If You Don't Have A Paint Brush Use And Old Toothbrush. Now Start Scrubbing The Mold Of. Use Warm Water :o)

Whirlpool frontend washer smelly cloths...need

I have this problem with my Siemens machine, it is due to mainly running low temp washes and bateria building up in the hoses etc. (more prevalent if the machine is connected directly to the sink and not on a stand pipe). I run a 90 degree cycle every 4 weeks with the machine empty except for two capfuls of baby sterilisng fluid (approx half a mug) I buy stores own as it is cheaper than miltons. The first time I did mine I ran the cycle twice to be sure it was cleared out. My machine is six years old and the first smelly signs were when it was about a year old, I run the maintenance wash religiously ever 4 weeks and run a machine descaler such as oust thru every 4-6 months. Hope this helps. Roni. (ps don't be tempted to use bleach as it foams up and can cause more problems!!)

We have a kenmore front load 21/2 years old now getting quite a smell from it. we dry it after use and leave the door open a little. it takes 2 days for the smell to leave, got any solutions?

Yes, several.
Go to YouTube and type in 'smelly washer' in the search bar. There are some good ideas there.
I'd also unplug the washer, and remove the strainer and give it a good cleaning. The strainer is located behind the kick panel and is in between the drum and pump. It;ll have a screw type lid on it, which can be a bit difficult to get out. I use channel locks to get some leverage over it, and this works well. Clean the strainer, and peer up into the pump cavity looking for any other debris that might have gotten by the strainer. Reassemble, and give the strainer 'O' ring and threads a spray of silicone as you reassemble. This'll make it easier to pull again if the problem reoccurs. Wipe down the front seal with aq bleach/soapy water solution, working from the back side forward. Load bleach into the detergent tray, the bleach tray and the softener tray. Put the machine on an extended, hot cycle, and run it. After this cycle, run another cycle, without any chemicals to flush the machine out. This should not only clean your washer, but will make your clothes smell better too!
Best regards, --W/D-- Please feel free to rate this solution - thanx!

Smelly clothes

The big door seal is probably the problem. Put on gloves and using a solution of Laundry detregent and hot water and rags, carefully wipe clean all the folds of the seal. It will be icky. Next run a cycle with some detergent and oxyclean or bleach if you have it.

Especially during warm weather, damp clothing left in a front loader mildew slightly very quickly- you can't really see much but you can smell it! So get the clothes in to the dryer immediately. You'll want to relaunder the smelly clothing after you have cleaned the washer.

Good luck to you and Thank You using FiX YA!

Maytag washing machine #mav6260aw

I found the crazy sound where comes from, it was an aluminum ring in the drain pump.
First of all, I took out the belt under the bottom, checked moter to run itself, it was fine, so, I suspected some waste in somewhere, it was lucky I disassembled the drain pump first, no waste in the drain pump, but I saw a ring that was cut under the pump (seems should be connected), when I try to spin the pump wheel by hand it is broken because of the ring.
I ordered the entire drain pump on the website, the cost $74 + delivery fee, I recognized Maytag re-designed the drain pump due to the ring ( new pump does not have the ring anymore). Now the washer works fine like new.
