Question about LG LHD45EL Dehumidifier

1 Answer

Unit runs well except cannot adjust the humidity setpoint. The only options are a 0 and a 5. Has been working well for several years.

If I wait until the room reaches a relative humidity of 0 or 5 the unit will run for ever. I want to set the unit for about 65 or 70% humidity but cannot make the change with the key pad. It will only toggle between 0 and 5. My other option is to run in the manual mode and turn the unit on and off myself according to the hygrometer in the room. I would prefer to run in the automatic mode. Any suggestions?

One more time. I cannot select the desired level of relative humidity. The only choices are 0 & 5%. Is the keypad n/g?

Hi

There is probably nothing wrong with your unit.If the relative humidity in the room reaches the level you have selected, the dehumidifier will turn itself off until the humidity rises again. If the bucket is full, it will prompt the shut-off switch, shutting off the unit. The green AUTO SHUT-OFF indicator will light up.Empty the bucket and the dehumidifier will operate as usual. If the temperature in the room is 65F (18C), the dehumidifier will turn itself off. Running at a low temperature causes frost to form on the coils, which interferes with proper operation.
When the set humidity is higher than the room humidity the compressor will shut off. Set the humidity control lower than the room humidity so the compressor will run in dehumidification. Please do accept this solution and revert for further assistance.

    Hi

Please check this image for details--

HUMIDITY CONTROL keys --- Are used to select the desired humidity setting.

+ : Used to raise the desired humidity setting.

    - : Used to lower the desired humidity setting.

    • The desired humidity can be selected within a range of 35% to 70% RH in increments of 5%.

    • If you press the key once again at 35%RH, "On" mode is selected. In "On" mode the unit operates continuously, regardless of humidity conditions.

HUMIDITY SETTING display(3 in the diagram) --- The desired humidity selected is displayed here.

    • For the present relative humidity displaying ,there maybe deviation of the indication with the increasing of the environment relative humidity.

Also check this link for the manual for your LG dehumidifier--

    Hi

If you are unable to select the humidity setting then i think the humidity control has gone bad. Check whether any frost appears on the coils. And, if it appears does it vanishes within an hour. Remeber, humidity control will not work satisfactorily below 65F/18C degree temperature.

If above two things are fine then its definetly a bad humidity control system. And. you'll need to contact LG service to get this fixed.

Please do accept this solution and revert for further assistance.

    Thanks

Why wont it turn on?

if power is applied then display should show current room humidity , if set is pressed then display should show current set point for desired room humidity , this has to be less than first display otherwise the control will think room has acheeved desired setpoint and shut off , the one of these i had seemd to have an overly sensative collection bucket full sensor and had to be "just right" for unit to run

My HB 40 is not collecting water as aggressively as when it was new. Now several days running only collects 1/2 inch. Is the unit done?

Dehumidifiers don't really have a lot of moving parts. Basically it cools the metal coils and a fan blows air across it.

They can usually be set to a specific range of humidity levels and the fan speeds can usually be adjusted.

If you are wondering if yours if working you need to look at the coils while its running they should be COLD and you should see water condensing on them.

The colder the coils get the better the unit works. If you suspect they are very cold then your unit may not be working very well.

It cost just as much to run a unit that isn't working as it does one that is working.

Do you have a gauge to measure humidity in the house? You really do need to see what the humidity level is before you get a new unit.

The amount of water from a dehumidifier has a much to do with the humidity level in your home as it does the operation of the unit.

The dryer the air is already..... the less water there is to take out when it passes over the coils

Coils freezing up..is this normal? Not sure how this is supposed to work. Could it be that it freezes the water, then turns off and empties into the pan?

The coils should not freeze up. If the fan is working, try lowering the setpoint to just below actual humidity. This will allow the dehumidifier to run and shut so water can drip off without freezing. If that works, slowly lower the setpoint over the next day or so. If the setpoint is too low, the unit runs continuously until it freezes, then never shuts down.

Product is about 6 years old. Used in basement. Worked great until this year. Now will run continuously but collect little water. What type of service do I need? This is a 65 pint per day Whirlpool.

There is some service that you can do ... Clean the filter and the cooling coils, regularly. Check the humidity level that you have the unit set on. It may be set to low and there's just not that much humidity in the air at this time, for it to collect. From what you said, it sounds like you may have it set on continuous cycle which could account for the lack of a lot of water in the bucket. In continuous run, the fan stays ON all the time. It's supposed to do that, so that the air is constantly moving and the sensor only turns the compressor ON, if it senses a humidity level 5% higher than what you have it set for. Try running the unit on a 1 or 2 hour cycle (if your model will do that) rather than continuous cycle.

Hope this helped you troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

DEM 10 Delonghi Dehumidifier has Stopped collecting water but still seams to be working

Hi,

First, make sure the humidistat isn't set too high by adjusting it to the lowest humidity setting and running it again. Next, test the dehumidifier by placing it in a closed bathroom with a hot shower running. If you don't see water collecting in the unit after several minutes, turn the unit off and clean all dehumidifier filters and coils. If, after adjusting the settings and cleaning the unit, you still don't see water collecting, you may have a refrigeration issue. This situation will have to be addressed by a qualified technician.

Take care.

Won't shut off when setpoint reached / full switch works

Your unit may be designed to run the fan continuously despite the fact that the room has reached the set humidity level. This design feature is intended to keep the air moving which helps mildew problems in both the room and on the surfaces of the dehumidifier itself. Check your manuel.
