Question about Denon Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I have model number AVR587 Dennon receiver which worked fine with my nonHDTV; however, I just purchased a new HDTV and since the receiver model does not have HDTV the audio goes through the DVR. The problem is that the picture continues but the sound get stuck and does a fast repeat unless I change channels or turn everything off. This occurs when I am watching the TV, a DVD or something that was recorded on the DVR. Would an upgrade to a new receiver with an HD input make a difference? I have already replaced the DVR and the TV.

It sounds as if your using HDMI out of the DVR to the TV which is fine but the better way to do this is to use the Component connections (red, Green, Blue) plus optical or coaxial from the DVR to the reciever and Component connections (red, Green, Blue) out of the reciever to the tv

It will not make any sound

You did not post a brand name or model number of the unit. Is it an audio or a video receiver?
Does the unit have a speaker selection button/switch? Did you accidentally turn the speakers off? If it worked the first day and now doesn't, I am guessing some button/switch has been inadvertantly pushed.
If you just purchased this and the unit is new, I would return it to the store where I purchased it, in the original packaging, tell them what happened and ask for a new unit. Surely it would still be in warranty.

Make sure your receiver is set to either "auto-select" or "digital" rather than "analog" (button on front display).

Harmony remote with Harmon Kardon receiver

HK AVR 347-I took it back- everyone was frustrated and the verdict was that it just doesn't work. I have a Dennon now and it doesn't sound as good as the HK but it works most of the time. Not sure it the Harmony is the problem. I'm reading the Dennon manual now and it seems the Dennon remote can do what the Harmony is trying to do. Harmony support is awesome and we'll keep trying. Sooo- was there a trick to it?
