Question about Car Audio & Video

2 Answers

I have a 98 Astro awd van. I have been trying to record in it using a laptop computer, mixer and audio interface. When recording on battery power alone, everything works fine, but when the recording components are hooked up to the van charging system through a 300 watt inverter the computer freezes up. The recording system works fine in other vehicles, but not in the van. Also, the system worked on a test run when the laptop battery was removed and power was supplied through the inverter. Any ideas what the problem is? MJ

Is it possbile that the extra load associated with the battery charging would cause the system to fail? I would think that if it was a short problem, it would have shown up in the system when the battery was removed.

Yor inverter is not working becuase of the converter 300 is too low you will burn up your laptop, ya need at least a 500 even if it's worked on other cars they may have had a better charging system or larger wire for the lighter feed.

Hi there,

It seems there must be some wire loose or getting short that cause to fail the system on heavy load. check all wires connected properly.

post further comments for more help.
Thanks

I just bought this mixer and can't seem my existing Cubase recording software to recognize it for recording. Do I have to run the mixer thru my existing interface or can the Cubase setups be modif

The mixer allows you to use the USB connection for recording without having to use an additional interface. Make sure that you have all of the proper drivers installed for the mixer. Regardless of whether you're using Mac or PC, you should be able to see the device in your list of available Audio Devices. If you do, you need to adjust the proper settings in the Cubase Audio preferences to make use of those inputs.

Separate inputs on xenyx x2442usb using logic pro 9

Unfortunately, the Behringer Xenyx x2442usb only comes with a stereo USB interface. The documentation is a bit misleading, but you can only record two channels through the USB interface - the main mix L and R. If you need to record more inputs than that, you'll have to do them separately.

Behringer mixer Eurorack UB802 is losing partial stereo signal in one channel. When I record (audacity software) I can hear both channels but displays one channel. Is it my computer's audio jack t

Sounds like the output cable from the 802 is not correctly pinned to your input on the computer. Fred is on the right track but you may need to take it a bit further.
It may also be helpful to use a Pro USB audio interface such as the Digigram UAX220v2 (line level version).
If you wish to use the computer's on board sound card consider an IHF/Pro interface that converts balanced audio to unbalanced , and the proper cables. Two 3-wire balanced 1/4-inch from the 802 to the left and right inputs of the interface (XLR Male), then RCA (Red and White) to a 1/8-inch TRS Plug cable onto the the computers audio input.
Henry Engineering's Matchbox HD comes to mind.
Good Luck.

I want to use my rode NT1-A on my laptop. how do i do so?

you need a recording interface (with phantom power if the mic requires that - most condensor mics need phantom power) to go from the mic to the interface, then to the computer. There are many USB recording interfaces - some easy plug and play interfaces include:

http://www.amazon.com/ART-Project-Series-Microphone-Preamp/dp/B000K6B59Y/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1334413603&sr=8-8

Then on your computer you need an application such as audacity (if windows), cubase, sonar, logic, pro tools, or any other audio recording app that will allow you to record and edit tracks. From there, you can install many different plugins or apps that can process the audio and add effects to the tracks like reverb, delay, distortion, etc.

I am trying to record from xenyx 2442fx to audacity. I am not sure how. I think it has something to do with usb, but do not know how to connect the mixer to the computer to get a good sound. Please help.

First, connect the USB audio interface which came with the Xenyx to a USB port on the PC. Then connect the TAPE OUT from the Xenyx to the IN of the USB audio interface. And connect the OUT of the USB audio interface to the TAPE IN of the Xenyx. You should now be able to record from any of the Xenyx channels. To listen back, engage the control room button which reads CD/TAPE. Contact me if you need any clarification.

Hope you guys can help... I have a laptop Karaoke system. I connect from laptop to 6 channel mixer to speakers. I use a stereo phono to RCA from laptop to mixer. I am experiencing a buzz coming through...

Yep! Get a decent audio interface that attaches to the PC with a USB connection and uses BALANCED lines to your mixer. I use a UA-25EX Roland/cakewalk as an example. (about $200 and there are cheaper units such as M-Audio Fast Track MKII ) Note these interfaces BOTH record and playback with two channels for stereo.
Essentially the audio board that is in PC's and Laptops are too near the switching noise of the processor and some of that is just bound to get into the audio lines as they don't even have balanced audio lines from the computers. Make sure you use either TRS or XLR balanced cables from whatever interface you get. Also connect ALL interconnected equipment to the same power source or receptacle. You can try to reduce the buzz with the mixer EQ's with what you have, but that sacrifices audio quality.

Using the dp-01 as a interface mixer

If you're asking about being able to use the DP-01s knobs and sliders to control the virtual knobs and sliders on some PC recording software the answer would be 'no'.

But if you just want to use the DP-01 to act as a mixer for incoming signals (like microphones and or guitars or other instruments) the answer is 'kind of'. The DP-01 cannot act as a usb interface for your PC, but it can sit in front of a usb interface or sound card and act as a mixer of sorts to mix input from instruments through the monitor outs and then into your computers sound cards or usb interfaces audio-in jacks. You are however limited to two simultaneous inputs though as that is all the DP-01 can handle.

Cheers.
