Question about HP MSA 1000 (A7450AFS1) Hard Drive Array

1 Answer

Two drives fails simoultaneously.

For the second time in 6 months I have two drives (the same two bays) fail at the same second resulting in loss of data - the F:\ drive on SQL server disappeared and since that is where i store the logs SQL went down hard. I havent even started that recovery.

Only one drive shows as failed in the GUI. When swapping out this drive it now has taken over 24 hrs to rebuild (40 folks sitting around doing nothing)

HP technician is now onsite but I dont get the feeling that he knows what is going on.

Any help on this critical production issue would be much appreciated.

Re: Two drives fails simoultaneously.

I personally would suspect your Power Supply is dishing out "Dirty Power"
I would sort this problem out first.
This is probably what destroyed the "Other" two in the "Same two Bays" sic

Sounds like a software problem with your BlackArmor or perhaps a failing drive. You might contact a low cost data recovery service such as

Gettinng a red light n the unit

The Buffalo have a description of the codes in their knowledge base. You can see on how many times it blinks what the cause of the problem is. If I am right the device is about 6 years old, the HDD might fail..... In any case it is out of warranty and if it is truly the drive maybe you can swap it.

Fastora NAS-104WR

It all depends on how mission critical this NVR is, (and how much money you have to spend)

A good rule of thumb is the more redundancy the better, so in theory, if you have the money, you should buy the second NVR, however if you cant afford an entire second unit, you should look at doing hard drive backups of that unit.

If you have any more question, please let me know!

Exactly same problem

check your network for conflicts, check power supply, fan and nic card, if your sure it's not the the drives inside the drive case, I have had 4 of these fail on me @work with different issues power supply nic card and both drives 4 units did the same thing and they were under warranty so when I got it back, I sold them and bought The Seagate BlackArmor NAS 420. no problems with them as of yet. Lacie get hot and components get hot and fail because there is not enough air flow I think.

Repeated hard disk failure and slow internal webserver

I have a simular problem with my DS207+. My second (sic!) volume failed especially when copying a lot.
But as I was using RAID1, I just repaired it and lived with it for the next months.
But now I want to have "Basic" drives.

I found this:

I will try and get hold of those cables.

If your third disk is failing again, it seems like a cable issue as well.

Raid 5 crashed

Hi Chris,

How many drives are part of the array and what type are they? Are the drives making any unusual sounds like clicking or screeching? If not, then you should be able to recover the data. If the drives are making clicking sounds, you will probably need a professional data recovery service that specializes in Raid 5 data recovery to help you.

If the controller shows that only 1 drive is bad, you should be able to rebuild it by replacing that drive. If the controller shows all the drives are bad, then it is most likely a problem with the Raid 5 controller itself. In this case, you could try putting the drives in a working version of the same enclosure/controller.

Check the obvious also, like loose connections to the drives. Whatever you do, dont force a rebuild as this will probably result in permanent data loss.

Help please to restore the failed raid

Well if your data is gone at this point, you mines well just proceed with rebuilding a new RAID 5 set with your replacement drive. Even if one drive fails in a RAID 5 set, your logical drive should still be accessible. Goodluck.
