Question about Mitsubishi VS-50605 50" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Mitsubishi Projection TV. Works for a couple of hours and then the picture shuts off

After about 5 hours the picture shuts off and the sound works. You use to be able to shut the TV off and turn it back on and all was good. Now you have to wait an hour or so and it work again. If you don't it will work for a couple of minutes and the picture will shut off again. If it helps a while back we noticed lines going horizontally across the screen at the top and bottom in random patterns (black and white). It still does that and that usually tells us the TV is about to go...but the lines do not always show up when it happens. Also when it happens the picture kind of absorbs itself into a horizontal line with 3 colors and then it all goes black. This happens very quickly.

We did call out a service guy and he could not recreate the problem. He noticed a couple of cracks and he soldered them. The problem has not been fixed since we had it happen twice within a week of him fixing it. The weekend seems to be when we see the problems since the TV is on more hours..... any help is appreciated.

on where the drip lands....even a good tech can miss the drip
evidence.....I have pulled the chassis to the shop only to find

Mitsubishi projection tv picture and sound turn off but the power button remains on with no picture or sound turn tv off real quick and then back on and works for 2 mins then turns off again what could be...

Here's the basic troubleshooting:

  1. Make sure that no front panel buttons are inadvertently stuck in an "engaged" position.
  2. Disconnect ALL devices from the TV.
  3. Press the SYSTEM RESET button and hold for 10 seconds. Proceed if the problem still exist.
  4. Press and hold POWER and MENU buttons simultaneously for 20 seconds. Proceed if the problem still exist.
  5. Unplug the TV from it's power source for various times, ranging between 5 minutes and 24 hours.
  6. If it still shuts down, press the DEVICE and MENU buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold it for 5 seconds to activate the Error Code Operational Check. The status LED indicator will then flash denoting a two digit code.
  7. Count the number of flashes then pauses for about a half second then flashes again. The first number of flashes indicates the first digit of the error code and the second number of flashes indicates the second digit of the code. For example, if the error code is "35", the LED will flash 3 times, pauses, then flashes 5 times. The error code is repeated a total of 5 times.
Please let me know the code you got and I'll tell where the problem lies and how to fix it.

This model is equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems. To activate this turn the unit on let it shutdown then press the input/device and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds after 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence. This will be one set of blinks a short pause then another set of blinks, this will repeat 5 times. 1 - 2 = no error detected 2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current) 2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies) 2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection) 2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source.
