Can this ice maker be set to make more ice? And faster?

Icemakers cycle cubes from the air temperature inside the freezer so you can't do much to increase speed except adjust the freezer control colder. As to the bucket not filling, most icemakers have a feeler arm or plastic paddle that is suppose to sense the ice level in the bucket. Make sure the feeler arm or paddle at the bottom is free and no sticking or hitting anything. It needs to move freely ask the icemaker dumps the cubes. If your refrigerator is less that a year old it should be under warranty and a free repair to you.

Rsg257 imaker bucketstuck

Probably indicates a leak inside the ice maker that froze the bucket to the icemaker outer shell. Our Samsung (under warranty) has had the ice maker components replaced twice in under a year for internal leaks (I think the 2nd repair has finally solved the problem - it leaked from the beginning, we had service out after 4 months, it continued to leak, and we had service out again a few months later).

First time, the tech had to take a blow dryer to melt some of the ice that had built up inside the unit, to free the bucket, so he could replace the components.

CAUTION: water contacting a blow dryer can cause an electrical short and personal injury. Be VERY careful if you resort to that method to melt the ice, and be sure to put towels under the ice chute to catch water. Also be sure not to use too hot a setting so the ice maker plastic doesn't become deformed. When in doubt, call for professional service.

The ice box on the ice dispenser appears to be clogged so ice cannot be dispensed on either setting (chunk or crushed). How does one remove the ice box front to look inside?

Hello there,
For you to be able to remove the ice maker from the refrigerator, you will have to get a screwdriver and a work glove, then you follow the steps below:
  1. Pull the LG refrigerator away from the wall and unplug the electrical cord.
  2. Shut off the water supply valve to the ice maker by twisting the knob clockwise. The valve is built into the metal or plastic tube that feeds water to the ice maker at the back of the appliance.
  3. Open the freezer door and remove the ice bucket below the ice maker. Set the bucket in the sink for the ice to melt.
  4. Lift the white plastic housing off the ice maker and set aside.
  5. Remove the screws that connect the ice maker assembly to the inside back of the freezer, using a screwdriver and work gloves to protect your hands.
  6. Push up on the ice maker from below to release the mechanism.
  7. Disconnect the wire plug that connects the ice maker to the back of the freezer and remove the entire assembly.
  8. When you are through with what ever you want to do with the ice maker.
  9. Reconnect the LG refrigerator power cord and slide the appliance back to its original position.

Hope this helped. All the best Elect_Comp

I don't understand how to install the round thing that goes inside the ice tray. the piece is at the end of the ice tray that connects to the spiral metal rod that turns and releases the ice tray.

A model number would be useful, the white ring is usually between the auger and the back of the bucket, meaning the front half of the bucket would have to be removed to allow the ring to fit between the two.

Fridge Freezer model KA58NP90 Ice maker problem

What is most likely your problem is the crushed ice solenoid. This solenoid, which is located next to the auger motor behind the ice bucket, is failing to actuate when you request cubed ice. Its "home" setting is crushed, and actuates to allow cubes past the crushing mechanism in the bucket. To be certain its the problem, remove the ice bucket, and tape the door light switch in the closed position. actuate the ice dispenser lever, for both cubed and crushed ice. you will see a square hole next to the rotating fork, when you select cubes, it should open. If it does open, there is something wrong with your ice bucket, perhaps the arm is broken, or the door inside bucket is off its snap in type hinge or broken altogether. If it doesnt open, replace the solenoid

Ice dispenser won't turn on, and the ice maker won't make ice.

If you have a whirlpool icemaker inside of your freezer (I've read on other posts that whirlpool ice makers are installed in various makes and models), there is a white cover over the ice maker (it's square). Remove the square cover with your hands or stick a flat head screwdriver in the side until you can pull it off.

Once the white square cover is removed, you should see a white wheel with gear teeth. In the middle of the white wheel is a plastic snap that should be holding it in. I noticed that one of the little plastic snaps was broken...which caused my "no ice" problem. A simple test is to push the white wheel toward the icemaker. If the wheel starts turning, you have found the problem.

Because the little plastic snap tab was broken off, I was able to pull the white wheel out completely.

You see, behind the white wheel are metal contacts that need pressure for the ice maker to work. Without the center plastic snaps holding it it, the pressure is gone...and so is the metal to metal contact.

I previously called Whirlpool, searched all of the web...to no avail. Every other solution was "check for ice blocking the water tube" or "replace your water filter". That's all balony. If your regular water dispenser is working, you don't have an ice problem. And if your water dispenser is working, you don't have to change your filter either.

If you realize that the little white wheel is the culprit, just google "whirlpool module" and you will see it for sale. I found one on ebay for under thirty buckaroos with free shipping.

Hope this helps.

My fridedaire side-by-side only gives crushed ice even when cube ice button is chosen

take the ice bucket out of the freezer
from the back of the ice bucket, there is a little metal bar that stickes out (back left bottom)
that little metal bar inserts into a hole with a spring loaded 'up/down' mechanism...this is stuck UP, and needs to be jiggled with your finger to spring down.
Once that mechanism inside the hole springs down, the ice maker will go back to producing whole ice cubes.

Samsung RS2555SL Ice Maker gone nutty!

The icemaker relies on the motor to twist the ice tray about 120 degrees or so the dump the ice out of the tray. In order to get the ice to separate from the tray the force of the motor actually torques the tray against the rear plastic support (much like you would twist an old fashioned ice tray that you fill up by hand). Anyway, this puts a lot of force on the plastic elements that support the tray and they break after time. Once the plastic support breaks in the back there is nothing to get the ice out of the tray and each subsequent filling of the ice tray results in water spilling all over the ice bin and eventually leaking out the front of the refrigerator. You can order the part and fix it yourself (the part is DA61-00244A and is available from a number of websites. Total cost about $16 with shipping.
