Question about Samsung SCX-4500 Laser Printer

Printer won't work

This printer is under a year fairly new. When I switch it on, it just has a moaning sound and won't print or do anything. Please advise.

The printer is worn out, replace the printer.
If the printer is still fairly new try to get it replaced under warranty. Otherwise many stores will let you trade in your old printer for a discount on a new printer.

If it is fairly old (more than a year) you can often find an AMAZING DEAL on a printer by following a 'deals site' daily. Within three weeks you will probably find an equal or better printer/combo FOR LESS THAN THE PRICE OF REPLACEMENT CARTRIDGES!

If you can't find any other solution, repair fees will no doubt be more than a new printer (on a deal).

The printer won't print anything and the on/off light blinks

you can unplug it for a long period of time and plug it back in and try it. Also, try using a can of compressed air to blow out any debris. Also, check HP's site under you model to make sure you can replace one cartridge without replacing the other.
Otherwise you may have a mechanical issue the would require professional repair, I think that model is about 6 years old and you would probably be better of buying new.

Not printing

If you are certain you installed the ink cartridge correctly then it sounds like the cartridge sensor has failed. This is fairly common with inkjet printers, give HP a call, it may still be under warranty:

Hp psc all in one will not work.

First for the simple tasks:

1. have you tried powering the printer down and back on again?
2. have you verified that all connections from the printer are securely fastened?

These PSC printers are fairly simple machines. If you've gone through the above it's likely that the printer itself is malfunctioning and needs to be replaced.

I don't know how old the printer is, but at worse HP by default offers a 1 year warranty on all it's products. You could call them and get them to replace it. I will warn you that HP support is a pain to deal with some times. Be persistent about having them replace the device (if it's under warranty of course).

First remove cartridges and remove print head and make sure the contacts on back of head look clean. I use fibreglass pen and give clean if in doubt.But be very carefull cleaning. But maybe not seated correctly.? If you pull the print head out and do another test does it come up with same message.?
Try again and see what you get. Still worth replacing head if faulty as where else can you get a 8 ink printer. Unsure what head costs.

"This printer is less than a year old." Well it is under warranty... have it checked from its vendor, I am sure that it is free. Unless they have a 6-month warranty on you.
