Error 0203 failure IDE #2

Arthur,

That problem can be a couple of things.

The CD/DVD Drive may be failing ,or the actual IDE Controller built into the motherboard is bad.

You will need to determine which it is.

To do that - find an identical computer and see if you can remove the CD/DVD Drive from your laptop and swap it with that computer's drive. Then try to boot up your laptop with the "Known Good" drive in the system. If the same error occurs - then you will know that the IDE Controller on the motherboard has failed.

You can try to upgrade your system BIOS and this might trick the IDE Controller back into working, but it is a slim chance. Try it anyway.

(For details about swapping the CD/DVD Drive on your laptop, visit the toshiba website to get the instructions. Also, on the same website you can download the BIOS executable to attempt to run. The website is: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=SB&os=&category=&moid=556042&rpn=PSM30U&modelFilter=M30-S350&selCategory=2756709&selFamily=1073768663)

Hope that helps!

AM GETTING AN ERROR "0203

First try restarting while tapping the F8 key to try and both from disk this way.If that doesn't work you will need to try and install the drivers for the ide controller and cd rom . if all else fails you may need to try replacing your dvd/cd drive it has failed for one of the above reasons.

Hi I have a Toshiba Tecra M2 laptop with Windows XP Pro SP3. My CD-RW/DVD-ROM/CD-ROM drive is not working. When I try to burn a disc, it says no recorder, or no disc in drive. Also, Windows doesn't seem to...

>> it says IDE #1 error when it boots up.

IDE #0 is your disk-drive.
IDE #1 is your CD/DVD drive.

So, take your computer to a qualified technician, to first check that the connectors (power, data) from the motherboard to the CD/DVD drive are good, and then, if necessary, to remove & replace the "dead" drive.

Dead hard drive, replacement not working

The solution is that you simply cannot go out and buy a replacement HD. You have to buy TOSHIBA's replacement HD.

They make a 40, 80, 160 and 320 GB HD for Tecra MV2's etc.- Other HDs simply will not detect.

IDE#0 ERROR

Usually the HDD is set on IDE #0.
The PXE error appears if the notebook tries to boot up from the LAN but the cable is not connected or there is no possibility for LAN booting.

In my opinion there is something wrong with the HDD or the BIOS cannot recognize the HDD correctly. I would recommend checking the HDD pins. Furthermore you should change the booting order in the BIOS.

Toshiba latop 0201 #ide problem

IDE #0 is your primary hard drive.

Toshiba's System Errors indicate that the error 0201 Failure IDE #0 may be caused by bad contact points where the drive plugs into the laptop chassis. Toshiba recommends pulling the hard drive in and out several times to clean up the male/female contact points.

Toshiba also said that if this doesn't work to contact one of their service centers for assistance.

The contact points solution rarely works, but is worth a try. Most likely, your hard drive failed and needs to be replaced.

IDE #0 ERROR

It sounds like there is a hard-drive problem. To help you further I would need your complete laptop model number. If your hard drive is indeed dead, most likely it's not too difficult to replace and a 2.5" hard drive is not that expensive.

Hope this Helps

Error on laptop during startup

The IDE0 refers to the HDD ide cable connector. It may be faulty or the connection from the motherboard. When booting up pres F2 or Del to see if your HDD is being recognised, if not the cable will ned replacing.
