if it is an upgrade it needs to detect older version of windows on computer if it was installed on another p.c or different hardware setup it has to be removed from the old hardware setting and given a new key even if same computer.
If you have installed Windows 7 but you don\'t have a "product key" which is 5 blocks of 5 characters each separated by a hyphen. This is usually found on the packaging of the disk when you bought it, or if it was a download then the key would have been emailed to you separately. If the computer came with Windows 7 installed on it then there will be a sticker on the computer somewhere (bottom for a laptop, side of case for a tower, etc) which will have this "product key" printed on it. If you cannot read the key you need to contact the builder of the machine with its serial number and full details of the machine and he should be able to give you the key.
If you have the key in some place then make a note of it, click on the Start button, right click on My Computer, and click Properties. Near the bottom of the page is a section on the activation status of your computer. If it is activated, it will say so, if it isn\'t there will be a link to go to the activation wizard from which you an follow the instructions to activate your product,
If you have none of these things then I would be very suspicious of the origin of your disk/programme, and I would think that it is a pirated copy. Please remember that you cannot own Windows of any sort. All you do is obtain a licence to use the product on a single computer - it will tell you if you have bought multiple licences - very unlikely - Using a licence on more than one computer is illegal, it constitutes software piracy and contravention of intellectual property rights.
I will gladly help people activate a Windows product but only when they have their own product key. It sounds as if you haven\'t got one.
The Windows 7 product installation code is supplied when you purchase the Windows 7 OS software. If Windows 7 is already installed on your computer, the product installation code is on the Windows label that is attached to your computer. If you cannot activate the Windows 7 operating system and you get a message that this is NOT a Genuine Windows installation and you have the Windows 7 label then you need to contact Microsoft to as for help to activate your Windows 7 license.
To activate your Windows 7 Right click on "Computer" icon on the Desktop, click "Properties" in the Windows Activation section at the bottom of the screen, click the blue text "Activate Windows now" Click the text "Activate Windows online now", you should see a message saying "Activation was successful", if so click "Close".
Hi,
Go to Control Panel \ System click on change product key then enter Valid product key and click next to activate Windows 7.
you can also activate your Windows 7 online.
OEM product keys should be either: attached to the system, usually on one of the sides, or in the package your received when you bought the PC. If it is prompting saying your key is invalid, you need that specific key or it will never activate. If all you are getting is that it cannot activate, you should be able to attempt the automated phone activation (9 sets of 6 number combinations) and it should work - I've done that many times successfully.
