Question about SMC EZ Connect Modem

Getting knocked off internet constantly

Seems like there is a problem with my modem. At first I thought it was my computer but I recently purchased a brand new computer and I'm noticing the same issues. The problem is that I keep losing connection to the internet every few minutes for about 5-10 seconds and then it comes right back on. It's fast otherwise. The constant knocks offline are really annoying though. I called the cable company but they keep telling me that the signal strength is strong and I must have a virus. That's obviously not true. I've tried turning on and off the modem and resetting it, but it still knocks me off randomly. What should I do?

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Call the cable company to come out for a service call... it sounds like signal issues... could be as simple as a bad splitter or connector.

SOURCE: Just had a new router put in by Time Warner Cable

I would need a few more details to really get to the heart of this but the first thing I would do is connect this Dell to the router with an actual cable, if only temporarily. See if there are still issues when directly connected. Depending on answer to that you would know if the wireless is some how responsible or if there is some other cause. If there are no issues with a direct cable I would say it is the wireless card or signal. You could a try different wireless hardware on the dell or switch channels on the wifi router to see if that helps. I can't think of a reason why four computers on the same router would respond differently to a specific site.

Constantly blinking Activity light

Well, you are very correct with the activity light blinking and the increased blinking except the fact that modem will encounter a problem in future...
The 5 different lights on your modem namely Power, Ethernet, DSL, Internet and Activity have their own indications and explanations.
1. The Activity Light indicates the amount of activity that is takin place on the computer on the Internet though the activity might blink even when you are not browsing. This can be explained by stating that the computer constantly keep sending signals  about it being connected to the internet and any other acknowledgements..

So, you've got nothing worry about unless the Power or the Ethernet or the DSL or the Internet light Blinks....
Cause they are the resultants of a fried modem(check for the adapter), faulty LAN connections, interrupted Dsl line and the account verification failure indications respectively.....

Dell Dimension 2400 PC Desktop - Can't connect to internet

The NIC (network interface card) is integrated into the motherboard of the 2400 computer. Most likely that circuit is bad. To fix it you’ll have to replace the motherboard or purchase a NIC card and install it into one of the PCI slots on the motherboard.

Internet connection

Amber,

My guess is, as you also have guessed, the internal wireless card. Since it is under warranty, there should not be charge for it but I don't know the details of your extended warranty.
