Question about Smartpool Dolphin 3001 Commercial Automatic Pool Cleaner with Caddy In-Ground Pool Cleaner

1 Answer

Need to use the smartpool Orion pool cleaner on 240 volt 50 hz power. A friend bought one in the USA (100v, 50Hz) but is using it in Cyprus where the home voltage and current are different. He has a 240 to 110 volt step down transformer installed but the cleaner will not operate at all. Any suggestions appreciated.

It will not work on 50 Hz. You could try a variable frequency drive to up the cycles or check with an electronics shop to see if they have a lower cost way of stepping up 50 to 60 cycles, otherwise it won't work.

I'm traveling to India where electricity is 240. Do I need to buy a power converter for my Asus laptop?

most laptop power supplies support full range power input. meaning it will accept any normal outlet voltages used anywhere. if you look at the power supply of your laptop it should say vin (voltage in) 100v to 240v 50/60 hz, or close to that if it is.

My limited research indicates this heater is designed for USA electrical systems. That would mean single phase, 240/208 volts, 60 Hz. The drawings I reviewed shows a 2 pole, 240 volt breaker feeding each heating circuit. That means no "neutral wire" goes to the heater and therefore no 120 volts is needed. This is good. Kenya's system is single phase, 240 volts, 50 Hz. The heater should work reasonably well on the African system. Connect the power just like you would in the US.

The voltage in my country is 230volts 50HZ I have a 120/240 volts maytag dryer what can i do to get it working

Normally the 240 volts rating is nominal and the device will run at 230 volts. The question is will the dryer run at 50 HZ? Check on the electrical rating tag on the machine. It may work. The motor may just spin at 50/60, 5/6 of the 60 HZ speed.

I bought a machine from the US last week with 110V specifications and used a step down converter for use in Pakistan which has 220V specifications. When plugged in and turned on, there was a pop sound...

It sounds like something blew in a big way. Likely to be the main power supply board. The step down transformer should have reduced it to the 110 volts you require. Check the transformer to make sure it does actually reduce from 220 to 110 vac. Also check the hertz , (hz) ( cycles) Australia uses 50 hz at 240 volts ac. im unsure what hz USA or Pakistan is. Confirm your transformer output meets the electrical specification of the coffee machine. There may be a local Nespresso machine repairer who will convert yoru USA spec machine to Pakistan voltage thus negating the need for a transformer. It may be a bit expensive replacing all the electrical comonents though, it may still be worthwhile.

Hi - I purchased a JVC TH-S3 Home Theatre System in the UK. It is set up for 240v 50Hz input. How do I convert it to operate on 110v 60Hz?

Check the unit for a sticker stating it's electrical approval numbers. There should be the voltage and cycles required. There could well be a switch of some description near this sticker Saying 120-240 with an arrow showing which way to put the switch to change the voltage. This usually involves removing a plate of some description to stop someone changing it by mistake. Don't forget the cycles as well. The UK uses 50hz or 50 cycles whilst the USA uses 60 cycles. Using the wrong one could burn the power supply out and even cause a fire. Many smaller electrical items are self seeking when it comes to power supplies but large components such as TVs and HiFi units are usually set.

If the sticker says 240 volts 50 hz then thats for the UK
If it has 120 volts 60 hz as well then it's possible to use in the US. Luckily it has a dual power supply built in. The chances of this is rather rare so you could have a boat anchor instead of a HiFi

Whatever you do DON'T just chabge the plug and try it out. There'll be smoke for sure.

If you are unsure get it checked by an electrician.

One way out would be to buy a transformer which changes the 120 volts to 240 volts but you will still have the cycles to worry about. So unless the cycles are changeable you can't use the hifi in the US.

Sorry for the bad news If it's not too large it's possible to recover some money by selling in on Ebay in The UK or Australia or any other country using 240/50hz

Does not work on 50Hz kenmore elite dish washer

If it was built for 60Hz AC power (American), it will not work on 50Hz power. The Hz, is the number of cycles per second, the electricity makes. If your motor & controls are wired for 60cycles, they will not get the proper electrical supple to work on 50 cycles. AC voltage goes from neutral to positive to neutral to negative to neutral, (one cycle) according to the country you are in. Some countries also use 230 or 240 volts, instead of 120 volts.

Different HZs problem (from 60Hz to 50Hz)

Hi,

Yes there are frequency converters available but most are relatively over rated (industrial) for your requirement such as MDS Power or VisiComm Industries. What you need is a Low Power Solid State Frequency Converters lower than a
Electrocon Frequency Converters. However, I expect this devices to be rather expensive.

A few other options you may want to consider:
1. Contact the store where you bought if from; swap with an International version (Model SL-1210 Mark II; same price as SL-1200 Mark II); dual voltage switchable on rear of unit: 120 volts/60 Hz (U.S.) or 220 volts/50 Hz (Europe). You hopefully just spend for the cost of shipping + a restocking fee;
2. Contact 3rd party Technics TT specialist like TopDJGear, Quality Electronics, Planet DJ or DJHardware
and inquire if they would supply you the part(s) that you need to convert the 1200 to a 1210; or
3. Offer a swap on eBay.

Hope this be of some idea/help. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Can I Use My Camcorder In Another Country?

Each country or region has its own electric and color systems. Before using your camcorder abroad, check the following items: Power sources * You can use your camcorder in any country or area with the supplied AC Power Adapter within 100V to 240V, 50/60 Hz. * Use a commercially available AC plug Adapter, if necessary, depending on the design of the local wall outlet. **Note** The United States and most of the Western hemisphere use electrical systems operating at 110-120 volts. Almost every other country uses 220-240 volts as a standard. Provided that your power adapter displays the following information, (100V~240V) 50/60 hz - it can be used overseas. **You may require an adapter to change the plug shape to match the outlet. Color system You can view your recording in the viewfinder. However, to view it on a television or copy it to a videocassette recorder, the television or VCR must be NTSC compatible and have the appropriate audio/video jacks. Otherwise, you may need to use a transcoder. Note: You can make recordings with your camcorder and view pictures on the LCD from anywhere in the world.
