Re: previously owned tower

First make a recovery copy of the OS. Then look over the programs menu to see if you can use any of those programs yourself. Copy those too, anf then, if you really want to, format the drive. Run as many of the programs as you might want to keep, and delete the rest. I do not suggest performing a generic, kill everything format. Be selective. Connect online, and see what it can do. If it does crazy things, perform an intruder check before considering hostile actions against the OS.

Re: previously owned tower

Hi there,
Well, is the best bet, to format the system, if you of course have the installations CDs, and licence, and drivers, for any
undesire situation of virus, as nenalex2002 says, and other malware situations, hacking, as a rule, FORMAT your system.
and protect with good antivirus, firewall.
good luck

Re: previously owned tower

Personally i'd just do a format and reinstall the operating systems. You never know if the previous owner got some spyware / troyan / virus, so it cannot hurt starting fresh, plus it's so easy if you have the system disks!
Also remember that if it's an older computer with less than 512MB and windows XP installed, you might want to add some memory modules.

I bought a used computer from a sale and I was trying to Restore it back to factory settings but it asks for a password. The previous owner created the password and I have no idea how to get a hold of them...

The password is a security feature and as such is there to avoid theft etc.
If you prove you own it to a responsible computer repair shop, they should be able to clear the password for you.

How do I change the registered owner name on the computer as I purchased the computer from someone else. When I scan the computer I keep getting trojans and cookies, and worms picked up from stuff he went...

I would reformat the PC and reinstall the Windows. This way you don't have to mess with that the previous owner's data and it will remove all the Viruses,Trojans and Spyware. And you can put in in your name.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Log in as administrator, it usally does not have a password on it.

Then go to users and remove the password. Log in as that user and change the password to what you want.

If there is a password on the administator, then write back and we will go from there.
