Question about U-Line Icemaker

1 Answer

My U-line runs too long ... it never shuts off......

It causes the food on the bottom to freeze ..... they had techs come look at it and he said that is the way it is. I paid well over $1k for this undercounter fridge and my $150 cheapie in the garage works better and it much quieter. So far the defrost switch was replaced .... the defrost gets iced up every few months ....... and it is loud ..... it sounds like a freight train ...... I cannot believe the low quality of this unit.

Where is the temp sensor that this unit uses to shut off. I am certain it is not shutting off enough because the defrost freezes up and clogs. I have to shut power of to it every few days to keep it from frosting up.

The model is U-2175RFW .... as you deduced it is a combo (freezer / fridge) .... also the freezer door has 'bleed air' vents on top .... but as you also surmised the door does not seal well. There is a big gap on the bottom of it. I will buy some thin weather stripping and seal all around it except for the intended vents on top.

Strangely when I have it full of beverage cans it does shut off sooner (like once a week) ...... maybe it reaches cold temp easier that way a sort of 'cold sink'. Thank you for your answer ....... more info on this model would be very welcome!

What model do you have? If you have a combo then the thermastat is in the freezer compartment. Normally when I hear about the bottom freezing is that the freezer door isnt closing(sealing) all the way. If your cold air drops into the refrigerator then the thermostat doesnt recognize this. U-line refrigerators does run the compressor, This makes the compressor run more effiecient. If your defrost is giving problems and you say that you replace the switch you must mean the timer. Maybe it wasnt the timer. It could be the hotgas coil thats giving the problem. Alotof techs dont understand how U-line works. I hear about this all the time. So check the freezer door to make sure its closed and sealing. Then you need to advance it to defrost and you should hear a snap of the coil opening up the valve. Then the hotgas should go thru and you hear the crackle of frost.

The 2175RF does run for 90% of the time. Your right with a load this makes the temperature hold better. The vent in the door is designed that way. Its for air return. The bottom sounds like the door could be warped. You can try weatherstipping it to see if that works. If its under warranty I would change the door. The freezer door is not that expensive if you do want to change it. If the frost is builtup in the back this would make the temperature in the fresh food warm. Then make sure the defrost is working. Now the 2175 is electrical so you will need to hold the light symbol on your display then while holding that push and release the on/off key 3 times. After you release it for the 3rd time then release the light key. You should hear a beep and then a click of the coil to open the hot gas valve. If its frosted up you should hear it crack and it will defrost the unit. If no cracking is heard then the coil is usually open. To check it by ohms you should get 360 ohms on the coil. I hope this helps a little more

I have a Kenmore Trio 76504 that the refrigerator keeps freezing products on the back of any shelf or crisper bin

Hello,

Most times this is a bad cold control, but there are other things to check for. Make sure the condenser fan is working and the coils are not covered with dust. A separated heat exchanger ( small capillary tubing soldered to the large suction line ) can separate from one another and make the fridge run too long. - tape tubing back together. A poor working evaporator fan motor could also make the fridge run too long and freeze - replace the fan motor. An inefficient compressor or refrigeration system could make the fridge run too long and freeze - have a service tech check this out. A misaligned control settings, make sure the air damper and cold control have not been bumped and are out of normal settings. Stuck open air diffusers or air dampers are becoming more and more common for allowing too much air to be blown into the fresh food section and freezing things. On all frost free fridge's the freezer temp air is blown into the fresh food section, if you have "easy" to freeze items ( eggs, veggies in water, etc ) in front of or under where the freezer temp air comes out, they could freeze - store them in a different spot. Doors not closing properly making the fridge run too long is something else to check for.

Good luck in solving the problem....

Freezer runs constantly. food freezes in bottom

I see this happen a lot on these models. The defrost control board is part of four operations. If you changed the Defrost control board then one of the two thermostats is not responding to changes in temperature settings. For freezer if turning the thermostat warmer should cause the compressor not to run as much and open the damper and regulate. If the only place the thermostat setting is placed to off and it responds only to off I would believe that thermostat is the reason. I believe you are on the right track to repair but if you have a look at the wiring diagram you see the connection and point I'm trying to make here. Let me place the diagram and send you a link shortly, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Food area freezing

try adjusting the air damper. also how you arrange the shelves and food can have an effect on how things cool. think of the cold air from the freezer as a water fall. if tall items are causing the air to channel straight to the botom of the fridge with out dispersing it will cause items to freeze at the bottom of the fridge. Play with your lay out. Also if the fridge is running all the time good way to test is to turn the fridge all the way up before bed. in the morning if the fridge is still running try turning it down till the compresor turns off. if the control is in the off position you need to replace it. if it shuts off before the control says "off" play with the air flow. Hope this helps.
