No sound on speakers except on itunes

I have a gateway 830gm and no sound from speakers except when playing itunes

I cannot find drivers on the Gateway Support site, which usually means the machine is no longer supported, which also usually means the Operating System is no longer supported. If this machine is running XP, or earlier, beware. It is no longer supported, and hackers will be looking for these machines to infect. I recommend you get a newer machine, or don't try to get on the Internet with this one.

Hi there,

  • Firstly ,make sure that you have installed the audio driver on your PC. Or if u didnt install it, you can download and install it from Gateway Site here: http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/1009151/1009151nv.shtml
  • And also check the audio cable connector. (Connect the audio cable / speaker to the sound card of your computer.)

Network card gateway 830gm
Well, you most likely will have to replace the network card, as you already know.
If your network connection is part of the motherboard, disable that one and plug in a new network interface card.

They are fairly plug and play....

Need new motherboard for Gateway 830GM
Looks like you have a p4 478 socket with ddr memory bad luck they only make 478 boards with ddr2 memory now. And when ever the power supply is as old as the motherboard it should be replaced to. Here's the specs I found on your computer http://www.shopping.com/xPF-Gateway-830GM. You could always try your luck on ebay good luck.

Insert computer serial number here to download the drivers.

Alternatively click driver download here: Gateway Support - 4659 Gateway 830GM

Click on the drivers, download them , then install them one by one.
Follow instructions from setup program.

My sound quit working
If you are talking about the on board speaker not working these are probably the wires for it. Get a magnifying glass and see if any of the pins are marked "spkr" or something similar to that. That would be where the wires go.
