Question about Whirlpool ED0GTQXMQ Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Electrical smell We have a whirlpool side by side refrig and this morning we noticed an electrical smell coming from it.  I tried to locate the specific location with my nose but was unable to do so.  Any suggestions on what it might be? Thank you!

Re: electrical smell

The most common cause of electrical smell on these units is from the compressor start relay. Get behind the fridge and remove the cardboard cover at the bottom. The relay plugs onto the compressor. See if the smell is stronger there. Also listen for it to try and start the compressor. If it just humms and clicks off, the relay is probably shorted out and needs replacing. Do not let anyone put a "fit all" relay on it, some of them will work ok for a while but cause a compressor failure a few months down the road.

If the relay is ok, check the icemaker area. A burned icemaker module will sometimes give off a foul odor.

Compressor on refrig/freezer not working, fan next to compressor stopped working also.

Sounds like you need to replace the thermostat which is located behind the refrig control knob . Tap on the knob and if the refrig starts , replace the control behind the knob .

Frezzer won't freze bad smell just befor it quilt

Hi, thanks for visiting! The most common failure is going to be the compressor relay, located...well, on the compressor. It will likely be square and white in color. After unplugging the refrig, you can pull this little relay off and shake it. If it rattles, it is bad. Look for any discoloration or burnt wires as well. If bad, replace with new one from and you should be good to go!

Burning smell behind refregratot. After fan trggered there is burning smell like rubber burning.

First , clean the coils under the front of the refrig , with a vac . Then pull the refrig out and remove the back panel and check that the fan there in working . If not , remove any obstruction or replace the motor ( pt # 4387244 ) . If the fan IS working , then replace the overload/relay , which is plugged onto the side of the compressor ( pt # 8201786 (comes with instructions )) . Both are easily replaceable and will save you hundreds in repair costs . Note : Dirty condensor coils ( bottom front ) can cause the overload/relay to go out .

Light and temperature indicator on refregirator do no operate. Wife heard a pop when she opened refrig. door.

If the refrig light AND the temp adjustment knob lights , went out , you need to replace the electronic board . Pt # W10135090 . This part is located behind the refrig , at the bottom left , with 2 screws , inside a white box . The board runs about $ 80.00 , and is easily replaceable .

It was working fine yesterday. When I got home I

Try unplugging refrig for a few min , then plugging back in . This will reset the adaptive timer and at least get the refrig working . The adaptive timer , is located in the control panel . Pt # 4388932 . To replace this board , remove the knobs and pro the top of the panel outwards . Remove the 4 screws holding the panel ( 2 are on the inside by the light bulb ) . You should now have access to the board .
