Hello everyone, Sorry for posting this again, but having a annoying sound problem with my dell laptop. This is my problem: 1.The sound I hear from local system is pretty ok(songs etc.,), sometime skips but pretty much ok. Even sound recorder is working fine with the microphone I have. 2. When I use the same mic/headphone over IM's (GTalk/yahoo/Skype) I get to hear random scratchy noise nothing but that...truly frustrating experience. The device driver selected in IM are the correct ones (Sigmal tel)
These are the steps I followed in trying to fix it unsuccessfully:1. Ran windows update to find updated driver for Sigma tel, which said I have the latest available one.2. Re intsalled R171789.exe (sigmatel driver) through windows update. (apparently the version 188.8.131.5215 is the final one :( ) 3. Enabling/disabling audio device (sigma tel) through device manager etc., As im totally dependent on voice chat over the internet, this has been a depressing one. Please provide help if you have a solution.

Re: Annoying audio driver problem in Dell Laptop
You have done all there is to try to correct the problem, I would say its somethinhg you have to live with, you might try changing the headset and mic if your using one to see if that helps, but other than what you have done there's not much more you can do.

Once downloaded install the sound driver I have provided the link for. If it still doesn't work, please post back here with your DELL service tag. This can usually be found on one of the labels on the underside of the laptop. I may be able to help further if you can provide that information.
Skipping and popping could be caused by defective speakers. But to be sure, go to support.dell.com and enter your service tag number (found on the bottom of the case, usually). There will be a link to the sound drivers which you can download and install on the computer. Once downloaded, you click on the file and it normally self-installs.
Are the screen and computer sharing the same power supply, on a 4-gang multiplug or similar? What else is plugged in to the same supply? Have you got another HDMI cable to try this with? How is the audio connected - can that be changed to test it? Have you another laptop or PC that you can connect to see if this is the TV or the laptop causing the issues?
most likely with the speakers. try to get external speakers or headphones. if same thing happens, update or reinstall your audio driver and try different sources of sounds. if it happens only with streaming audio, most probably, your internet connection is the issue. hope it helps
As you mentioned that you have downgraded to windows xp, did you change the sata operations to ATA mode from AHCI mode in bios before installing XP? If you have done this then try and reinstall webcam driver and also the audio driver. If possible get into device manager to check if all drivers are working fine.
check to see if you have the latest audio driver from Dell, as it's sounds as there is a conflict with the game and the audio, click the link for dell drivers on your model.
You may have inadvertantly loaded up windows sound drivers from a windows update, that would cause conflict as it's just a generic driver and not a correctly installed audio driver
