Re: smc wireless router

Configuring this smc router depends on your internet service provider..
if your isp is cable , then connect the cables from the wall outlet to the modem and the modem to the router and the router to the pc..
find out the IP address is ipconfig (Start -> Run -> "cmd" [enter] -> "ipconfig" [enter]). pix.gif The command to ping the router is ping Both are to be executed from a command prompt.

In the routers web interface, click on login (password would be either blank or smcadmin) -> Advanced setup -> click on WAN -> Dynamic IP address -> click on clone MAC address and save the settings.

and now u would be able to go online wired..

to go online w/ls
In the routers web-interface -> click on login -> Advanced setup -> wireless -> enable -> apply -> channel and SSID -> Set the following values:

SSID : Set it to your name SSID broadcast : Enabled wireless Mode : Long range Mixed (11b + 11g ) Transmission rate : 11/ 54/ 108 Mbps Channel : 6 g-nitro : disabled

check in w/ls w/ls laptopt, u would c the w/ls n/w name which u have setup, connect to it u would go online w/ls

To setu ur router for a dsl connection..
In the routers web interface -> Click on login (password would be either blank or smcadmin) -> Advanced setup -> WAN -> PPPoE -> Enter the following values:

  • Type in the Username and the password provided by your ISP.
  • Set MTU = 1440.
  • Set maximum idle time to zero.
  • Save the settings.
And the w/ls settings r the same as mentioned earlier..
check it out

There are a few things thatcan cause you to lose wireless connection with your wireless router.1. Weak signal strength, check the signal strength on your wireless card. If it is weak move thewireless router away from brick or concrete walls and if possible locatethe wireless router higher up.2. Have you secured yourwireless router from people near your from unauthorized access? i.e. change thedefault password, setup encryption use WPA2 or WPA, change the default SSID,and turn off SSID broadcast, and for added protection, enable MAC addressfiltering which allows only the MAC address/es of your wireless card/s toconnect to your wireless router.3. You could be gettinginterference from electrical sources such as air conditioners, arc welders, washing machines etc. If so, the power supply to the wireless routers andcomputers etc should be connected to a surge protection power board, betterstill connect your computer equipment to an UPS (Uninterrupted PowerSupply). 4. Check the channels ofthe wireless routers and access points in your area and change the broadcastchannel on your wireless router to an unused channel or one that is currentlyused but has the weakest signal strength. This will minimize interferencewith your wireless router from other wireless routers and accesspoints in your area.

Linksys Wireless-G not connecting to internet

Make sure you are plugging the SMC into the WAN port on the Linksys router and not the LAN ports.  Your internet connection (which is your SMC) should always plug into your WAN port on the Linksys.  Any computers that you may need to plug in, like Desktops that are "wired" and not "wireless", should plug into the LAN ports on the Linksys.  If you are not using the WAN port on the Linksys for your SMC modem, then that would explain why you cannot get to the internet on wireless or wired computers.
Here's why you are getting the "low connectivity" message:

Computers don't understand why the Internet is connecting or not the "low connectivity" message you keep receiving has nothing to do with your wireless signal strength.   To a computer NIC, "low connectivity" means your network adapter could not find a DHCP server and receive a valid IP address.  When this happens, your network adapter assigns an IP address to your computer in the following range..., and will display the "low connectivity" message until it is able to receive a valid private IP address from the DHCP server.  You can verify this by going to START | RUN and typing "cmd" (without the quotes), then hit ENTER.  A black box will pop up....then type "ipconfig" (without the quotes) and hit ENTER.  This will show you your IP address, subnet mask, and gateway address, and you can verify that your IP address is in the range.  A valid private IP address is typically in the range, but could also be in the range, or the range.    Also, make sure you have DHCP server enabled on the Linksys router for the LAN.  This will ensure your "wired" and "wireless" computers receive a valid IP address.
The WAN port on your Linksys router should be configured to "Obtain an IP address automatically using DHCP".

Two router home network problem

Can you still connect to the Internet with the Linksys router? I suggest that you go ahead and reset the SMC router to clear up your previously configured settings. Then before reconnecting it to the linksys router, make sure that you can access its web interface via Don't disable DHCP as your computer won't be able to obtain an IP address from it automatically. Do not change other settings. Next, disconnect the ethernet cable and check if you can access the router interface wirelessly. Once done, connect SMC's WAN port to Linksys' numbered port. Make sure SMC's WAN light is on, as well as the light for the port you used on the Linksys router. Check if you can get online.

With this configuration, the linksys router is now acting like a modem, and the SMC as your router. As long as you're online when wired to the linksys, you should also be able to access the net on the SMC once you physically connect them.

SMC Barricade g SMCWBR14-N Wireless Router... router Configure with Westell 327W

it seems that the router capability of both devices are conflicting with each other so below are the steps that you can try to setup the two devices to work with each other.

i assume that you are using pppoe connection from at&t and you are using a connection manager. if so, with the current setup that you have right, you need to disable the connection manager on your computer (network connection, disable at&t connection) and set the connection of your web browser to "never dial a connection". check now if you will be able to connect to the internet instead of being prompted for a password. if your problem is still the same, try the steps below.

configure the westell 327w the way it was before (when it works properly when hard wired to the computers but the wireless sucks) but disable the wireless capability. change now the ip address of the smc router from it's default ( to an ip address which is on the same segment as the ip address of the westell 327w (ex. if your westell 327w is using the ip address disable the dhcp of the smc router (note:make sure that you have configured all the settings that you want to configure with the smc (i.e. wireless settings, port forwarding, etc). then connect the westell to one of the LAN ports of the smc (note: with this setup, the wan port of the smc should not be used) and power cycle everything and check if this setup will work.

hope this'll help you and just ask me if you have other concern.
