    THANKSS FOR YOUR RESPONSE

I BELIEVE ITS NOT TO DO WITH THE DISPLAY AS I WOULD LOOK INTO IT IF THE HARDDRIVE WAS TO BOOT, THEERES NO SOUNDS IF I PRESS AND HOLD BUTTONS OR ANYTHING. THE LAPTOP IS PRACTICALLY DEAD BUT JUST THE LED'S COME ON. 2 OUT OF THE 3.

I CANT DO ANY HARDDRIVE TESTS BECAUSE MY LAPTOP DOESNT BOOT? THE SCREEN STAYS AS IT IS BEFORE I POWER IT ON. IVE TRIED TAKENING THE BATTERY OUT AND JUST USING AC. IVE TRIED IT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. WHAT MORE CAN I DO?

The issue might be with the hard drive. I recommend you to test the hard drive.
If the hard drive test fails, then it is confirmed that the issue is with the hard drive of your notebook.
Click on Testing a hard disk in HP notebooks in the below link to test your hard disk:

You may also try the steps in the below links:

    I appreciate your efforts.

If the hard disk light does not glow then the issue is with the hard disk.

Sometimes the issue could be even with the RAM but we will hear a beep when the RAM is gone on most occasions.

If you have recently added a new memory module(RAM), remove and check.

If you have an additional hard disk, you can try inserting the new hard disk into the laptop to test the latop.

If the issue persists, you may have to contact HP.

I have the exact same problem but i tried the HDD RAM and batteries ( including bios battery ) in a cq60 and all work fine ive just been on the phone with hp and they recommend to clear cmos via the jumpers rather than leaving the cmos battery out for a few mins...

my cq50 does still boot into windows if i just leave it for anything up to 5 mins albeit rarely im going to try clearing cmos via the jumpers and hope that works if not it will more likely be a dead motherboard

I have a compaq Presario cq40-215wm wil not boot screen stays black. light by caps lock and num lock blink 1 time over and over. Got the same result with a hard boot

Have you tried removing the battery, and disconnecting the power adapter. If you have not tried that please try that.
1. Once you have removed both. 2. Power up computer with just power adapter connected and no battery. 3. If the computer powers up shut computer back down 4. Put battery back in and leave power connected
If that does not fix the issue. The back light has possibly gone out on the computer. Depending on how old the computer is. 1. Either contact the manufacturer of the computer 2. Take computer to a repair shop 3. Consider purchasing a new computer

My compaq presario lap top computer is started but screen stays black tried running auto fix thing that comes up but doesnt change anything

Sounds like your bios options might need to be enabled (boot up sequence) that is if you have a decent operating system otherwise press F2 whilst booting to get into bios pages, familiarise yourself with these pages and when you are confident save and exit changes or reset values to default.--good luck!
