Question about LG LRFD22850ST French Door 22.4 Cu. Ft. Refrigerator w/ Multi-Air Flow & Digital Read Out Temperatur...

Freezer frost buildup; fan constantly running; water filter

Luckily, I purchased a 5 year extended warranty on my LG model # lrfd22850st. since purchase it has been repaired (?) several times for the freezer frost and ice on fan problem...a switch in top of freezer, door adjustments, new door gasket, and now a new door! nothing has fixed the problem.
The fan constantly runs except when you open one of the refrigerator doors. I questioned this and was told that it is supposed to run all the time to circulate the cold air between the frig and freezer. At times, about once a week it will shut off for an hour or two, then starts again. Is the fan running normal? Is this ENERGY EFFICIENT?
Since purchase date, the water filter indicator has never come on nor have I changed the filter (ignorance on my part). I have ordered a replacement filter but am not sure if I even need it. I read somewhere that it must be charged, do not know if this was done when originally installed. How do you do this?
Now, my lunch meat drawer is not getting cold. Contents are warm as if left on the counter when in frig. I am throwing out more than I am eating.
Lastly, no matter what temperature I set on the door panel the temp indicator always returns to 0 for freezer and 37 for frig. Do you think there is a problem with the control panel? Could this be the cause of all the problems?

Just had mine repaired. Tech told me that the tempearature settings on the display panel are not EXACT science. The fridge is cooled by blowing air from the freezer to the fridge and when the sensor in fridge reached approx desired temperature, the damper is closed.

The noise you hear periodically (water dripping) is the heating rod melting the defroster (hence frost freeze), which unfortunately sometimes spills into the blower motor to fridge, causing frozen motor, causing the infamous ER FF error code and fridge failure.

I reluctantly had LG to do the energy saver fix (recall) and it replace everything that the internet users are complaining about.

2 year old side by side refrigerator & freeze stopped working. Neither side will cool. Model # 106.55122700 manufactored 6/2007. No pool of water, etc.

Is the machine turned on and can you hear it running??

If nothing is running then it could be a defective cold control (thermostat) or the machine went into a defrost mode and failed there. If it is running then.....

Open the freezer door and you should hear a fan motor running.
If not the fan motor is defective and needs replaced.

Look to see if there is frost building up on the back panel in the freezer section. If you see a buildup, then the defrost system needs repaired.

There is another fan motor located in the machine section behind the cover on the back rear of the fridge. It must be running as well.

If none of these items check bad, then you could well have a failed sealed system, including the compressor.
The sealed system carries a 5 year warrant. Call your selling dealer for service.

Freezer compressor running constantly

Below the evaporator fan behind the back cover inside the freezer is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).

How to check everything
http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php
If it's heavy buildup-
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

If the defrost heating element, defrost timer or evaporater fan weren't working, you'd develop a block of ice on the evaporator. Is the compressor running? If it is, it might have bad valves from the frost buildup scenario. Liquid refrigerant could have gotten to the suction valves. The sealed system should have a five year warranty. Might be time to call a pro

Fan runs all the time - freezer frost build up

The fan should cycle during recovery period after you opened the unit and then shut off. Make sure there is plenty of space around the unit for ventilation. If you've done this and you said it's 3 months old? Call for warrantee service.

I have the same problem. Engineer said most likely problem with insulation and since pipe is moulded onto the back, it cannot be fixed easily. Defrosting is a temporary solution only. Luckily I kept extended warranty going, they are going to replace it with a new one.

LG LRFC22750 Bottom freezer french door refrigerator

6343ed3.jpg The problem is ice build up on the back wall. The noise you hear is the fan blades hitting the ice. On the back wall water gets trapped, it then builds up over time, and a big ball of ice forms and blocks the fan. Take off the back wall, defrost the build up and cut the insulation off as above. The water will no longer get trapped and the problem will not come back.

New Refrigerator Past Warantee Not staying cold

is the fan in the freezer running? if not then the air cant circulate and nothing will cool properly. if is running, is there frost build up on the inside back wall of the freezer? if so you have a defrost problem. if no frost on the back and the fan is running, remove the back panel inside the freezer and make sure all of the silver coils have light frost on them. if only part of them are frosted get out your manual and look at the warranty section. then seal system may have a 5 year warranty. if it does then call sear for warranty service. if the coils only have partial frost and its not under a 5 year warranty buy a new frig. because repair will cost more than its worth
