What model is your laptop? What do you mean by "activate it"? You trying to reinstall Windows and so want to boot from CD?
You might need to press F2 or the Del key at post to get into BIOS. But before you try, have you edited settings in BIOS before? If not you might want to get a comptuer savvy friend to change the settings for you or perhaps your local computer.
Either way if you have more questions of this didn't work, let me know.
Regards, Chris

OK so you're (from what I can gather) in BIOS and can select CD/DVD as the first boot device. To save those changes most systems use F10 to save and exit. It might be different on your system, but typically there will be menu options along the top.

If what I have said hasn't helped get back to me with the exact model number so I can do a bit of a search around for it.

If you successfully selected CD ROM, try saving the changes you made and then ensure that you have a bootable CD in the drive when you power on the system.

U save changes by pressing the f10 key.

However, if your CD?DVD is defective or has virus infection it may be descriminating against some CDs and be seeing them as blank CDs except original CDs or DVDs. So if you have succeeded in changing the first boot option to CD and still has the problem try loading your software using and external CD/DVD. Better still, u can use only original CDs.

My laptop gets the error pxe-e61 error and I do not have a bootable disk

Check your boot order. If it is set to network you'll get this error. It could also be due to bad cable, etc.

It's a good idea to get a bootable USB that can run some utilities, as well.

Recovery Issues A105-s361. Boot sequence always starts with HDD. Tried F12, tried F2 (bios). Any other way to boot from recovery disk(CD-ROM)!!

There is still a way for you to boot from your CD ROM. Just access or go to BIOS again, look for "BOOT" tab and then set the boot sequence of your computer and the set the first priority to be on the (ODD or CD DVD ROM), just make sure you put the CD ROM option at the first section and to do that, Use the arrow keys on your keyboard and highlight it and then press normally "F5 and F6" further instruction are there any way. Once your done, press F10 and select save and exit, Insert the disc on the CD ROM restart your computer at that time your computer should be booting now from the CD ROM.

Cheers . . .

Toshiba L350 series laptop shows "windows failed to start" screen when booting up & goes to a completely blank screen afterwards. Tried using recovery cd & can't get C prompt to come up. Need...

Shut down the laptop, make sure that no light is lit up. Before booting it back up, press and hold the F12 button. It will lead you to boot options. Open up your DVD drive and insert Disc 1 of recovery then make sure you select the ODD or the dvd drive to boot up. This will start the recovery process.

Other models has Icons for boot options. Make sure you select the single disc option to boot the ODD.

Hope this helps.
