Question about Toshiba Satellite M35X-S349 Notebook

M35X does not boot up

My Toshiba M35X-S349 does not boot up. When I press the power button, the power light comes on, the cpu fan runs for a couple of seconds then stops. The power light is still on but the HDD does not sound like it is spinning and the HDD LED flashes then stops lighting up. I don’t hear any POST beep tones.
I initially thought it was a display problem because when I turned the laptop on it booted up for a minute or so and then went black. I pressed and released the closed cover switch but that did not bring the display back on.
About 4 weeks ago I replaced the (infamous) power connector on the motherboard and it was working fine for that period of time.
I have reseated the memory modules with no resolution and went in to reseat the cpu. Also checked internal cable connections. Still no resolution.
Tried to boot from CD but, that went nowhere.
Might I have a CPU issue??? Or is the motherboard the problem???
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I thank you in advance.

I forgot to mention that in order to power down my laptop, I must remove the battery or disconnect the AC power, which ever I am using at the time.

I was on the internet when the screen went blank. I waited for a short time for the screen to come back on but it did not. The screen is black with no faint light as others report. The blue power button comes on, the fan runs for about five seconds and shuts off but no boot up whatsoever. The lights for the caps lock, numbers lock and wireless internet indicator do not come on at all. I tried to hook it up to an external monitor but was unable to get a response. That may have been due to operator error. I have reseated the memory but with no success. The power jack was replaced by Toshiba about 18 months ago. Any help you might render would be greatly appreciated!

Same problem all around. It had been serviced for the infamous problems and worked for about 6 months.

Reseated everything and it booted briefly but then went black without warning. Now it does the same thing, fan, powerlight, then nothing.

What a pain in the ***.

My laptop worked fine when I closed it up. when I went and opened it like I have a thousand times before it wouldn't restart. I shut it down and restarted with the power light coming on, the HD spinning for about 3-5 seconds and then nothing. I tool out the battery and reset the memory and got nothing in return. It is now a paperweight as I ponder what to do next.

I have the exact same problem. I press the ppower button, fan comes on for about 3 seconds then stops and nothing happens. The power button remains blue but nothing else happens. I can hold the power button for a few seconds and it goes out. I try again to power up but the same happens. Can I get instructions on what the issue is and how to fix it?

Several model Toshibas had this problem including M35X and M75X. There is a small power chip under the top cover bezel(above keyboard) that overheats and comes off the MB.This is a Maxim IC which Toshiba unfortunately used in several models till they all developed the 'no boot' problem. Some say heating it will reseat the IC but others replace the board. It is a design flaw that is why Toshiba extended the warranty. Good Luck!

Tb estou com o mesmo problema =/

Its a design problem with the motherboard and where the power plugs into the board. It breaks and you have to buy new board or throw away the laptop.

I had the same problem after trying to overclock a satillite. the laptop did the same things. I tried everything including using the recovery disk, upgrading mem and replacing the HD. in the end I had it sent back to toshiba through best by under warranty and it came back with a scratch on the screen buy it booted up and has been fine. this rig has an intel 1.6 centrino chip and intel board, also I updated the bios to 1.5 and shared video memory went from 128mb to 64 mb.Toshiba sent back a repair order with the comment "an internal was made". I have also seen comments about the loss of shared video memory and while I have seen statements that both intel and toshiba are aware of the problem there is no fix that I have seen

do a hard reset, it might work.
take out the charger and the battery, press and hold the power button for about 20-30 secs. put back everything inside. and now see if it works.

Toshiba m35x-s349 turns on but does not boot

check battery power. Lots of times laptops won't boot if the battery has gone down to low. Probably has just enough charge to turn the machine on but not enough charge to boot the machine.

1. Remove all USB devices such as printers, mp3 players etc etc.
2. Remove the power-cable and the battery
3. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds
4. Put the power-cable back in but not the battery and none the USB devices.
5. Turn the computer on

If this doesnt work can you hear any fans or hard disk activity when you press the power button?

Need to replace toshiba satellite m35x-s163 fan

Unless you are really comfortable with opening laptops to upgrade parts, I won't recommend doing this. Rather get a notebook cooler. It does the job of cooling the notebook pretty well.

Laptop fan

Hi. The common problem with these is dust build up in the heatsink fins, but I would have thought the fans would be runnnig hard. try cleaning the dust out by putting a vaccuum cleaner against the grills and around the fan intakes. apart from that, they can have fan failure when trying to run at idle speeds (they may still work at boot) - especially if the fan(s) were running with a slight rattle previously.

My Acer Aspire 5600 does not start up. When I press the power button, the power light does not comes on, I changed the batery pack and the power cord but nothing happen.

Try powering it on while the battery pack is not in the laptop, but with the AC plugged in. Does this change the results?

If not, then you most likely need to take it in to a repair shop, or open it up and make sure the button itself is functioning, and that there isn't a short in the system board.

HD isnt running

Sounds like your motherboard just died. This is a known issue with Toshiba. They extended the warranty until Nov 7th of 2007, but now it is out of warranty. :-\ You could try phoning Toshiba (good luck getting someone who speaks English) and see if they have any other solutions. Repair is in the neighbourhood of $500 or less, so it seems.
