You can verify your belt installation by going to repairclinic.com. Click on the "Repair Help" link at the top of the page, then locate the "Dryer Belt Diagrams" link under Special Features. Refer to Diagram E under the Maytag heading. If you say you have the belt installed correctly, make sure the tension spring is still installed. I hope this helps you.

Maytag neptune dryer belt off and loose

If belt is not broken, then the tensioner is not routed properly. Generally belt comes around drum, then around tensioner pulley then on motor pulley. Tensioner is spring loaded, so you need to pull up on tensioner to get belt around motor. Good luck.

is the idler pulley have enough tension on it,the tensioner on these can get bad and not put enough tension on the belt, push on it,it should take some force to move it,if you can get your fingers under the belt around the drum without much effort then replace the idler pulley and tensioner

Loose belt

No, you have an idler pulley which keep tension on the belt. You may have a problem with the idler pully or the belt may be worn or the drive pully slipping.

Drum doesn't turn in maytag neptune MDE9700AYW

Just remove the screws around the vent tube in the back and you can see the belt tensioner laying there on the floor of the dryer.
Most likely someone turned the drum the wrong direction and the belt came off.
The belt goes through the opening in the tensioner and under the idler pulley and then onto the motor drive pulley. Make sure to have the tensioner mounted into the floor first.
It just slides over into a slot and then over to the other side as tension is put on it.

BELT WON'T TURN THE DRUM

there is a tensioner pulley as well as the drum and motor
It hooks into a slot, usually on the floor of the case, and has a spring that pulls it against the belt to tension the belt.
Broken belts have been known to knock the tensioner out of place, it should be sitting on the floor of the case as should its spring.
There is usually ony one slot for it to sit in, self evident if you know to look for it
loop the belt around the drum.
slide the belt down the drum directly over the motor pulley
loop the belt around the motor pulley
pull the tensioner pulley hard to the end of its travel against its spring
wrap the belt around the tensioner pulley
release the tensioner so the spring pulls it against the belt
rotate the drum by hand to ensure the belt is aligned and does not pull offf the pulleys
reassemble case
dry clothes
its easier than it looks seeing a broken belt in the bottom of the case.

Replace belt

A belt replacement problem solution has been posted above. However, to install a new belt the top and back of the machine will have to be removed so that the belt can be slipped off the back of the drum.

Before replacing the belt, I recommend checking the tensioner pulley that is located at the back of the dryer motor. The tensioner pulley is a plastic pulley with a spring attached. Your belt may have come off the tensioner pulley which would mean that it is too loose to drive the drum.

Hope this helps

Belt came loose

BELTS DON'T JUST FALL OFF THERE MUST BE AN UNDER LYING PROBLEM.WHEN YOU FIGURE THAT OUT TO PUT THE BELT ON GET ON YOUR HANDS AND KNEES
REACH IN ONE ARM ON EACH SIDE UNDERNEATH THE DRUM WITH YOUR RIGHT HAND GRAB THE BELT (BE SURE ITS NOT TWISTED) WRAP IT AROUNG THE MOTOR PULLEY.
HOLD IT THERE, NOW WITH THE LEFT HAND PUSH THE TENSIONER PULLEY TOWARDS THE MOTOR
THE BELT SHOULD GO OVER THE MOTOR PULLEY FROM THE RIGHT SIDE. SO IF HOOKED UP CORECTLY THE BELT WILL GO DOWN THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TUB-AROUND THE LEFT SIDE OF THE TENSIONER PULLEY TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE MOTOR PULLEY THEN BACK UP THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DRUM
GOOD LUCK=)

Make sure the belt is properly routed. Often, there is a tensioner that 'adjusts' the belt. It is a wheel that is on a pivot with a spring attached to a fixed point. It may be located anywhere around the drum but is likely near the motor frame. Now, with access to the motor shaft, start the belt over the shaft in the direction of motor spin as much as you can. Try to turn by hand or grab the belt and pull along. ...if it does not work..put the belt over the motor pulley after pulling back on the tensioner. You can use a long screwdriver as a lever. No tensioner? There will be a method of adjusting the placement of the motor. Make sure the motor shaft comes out square to the belt.
