Hi, I'm trying to fix an Aspire 4830T however the keyboard seems to be having some major issues. It would not recognise any key presses and sometimes randomly press and hold a key (most commonly caps lock or ctrl) The laptop was working fine when I had last used it about a month ago with no problems, I've opened it up and checked for bad/loose connections to the motherboard but none visible. It some reason also seems to effect USB keyboards as they also do not seem to want to work, however I'm able to use it fine via remote connection (TeamViewer) Any ideas? Thanks P.S. I've scanned for viruses/malware already, no luck.

The problem is the battery as mentioned before. Disabling "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Battery Method" should solve the problem of the keybord and the mouse, this is, because the driver dosen't work properly with a bad battery. I think it fires a lot of hard interruptions that are blocking the keybord and the mouse interruption to the system (each time a key is pressed an interruption is send to the processor... if the battery driver sends a lot of interruptions, the key interruptions don't have time to be processed in time - that explains the fact that the system responds to a key press is that bad)

I suggest you to remove battery.
If this is still not working, your keyboard or motherboard is bad.
Did you spills any liquid on your keyboard ? if you did, probably only your keyboard.
From your explanation, i suspect it's motherboard.

ok this may sound weird
but this is what works for me
simply remove your battery back while the ac adapter is plugged in
your touch pad and keyboard should work now
when you have all systems go reinsert your battery pack
good luck

In laptops with a small screen (14,15" ) the keyboard is accordingly
smaller than for desktops, and there is no numeric keypads, or arrow
pad. So the keys 7,8,9 0, U,I,O,P,J,K,L ,comma, dot, / have a triple
function: the primary function, the shifted function, and a third
accessed by an FN-Fx key combination. The actual key combination may
depend on manufacturer. If that key combination has been activated, the
foregoing keys perfom the third function they were designed for..
Read
your laptop manual to find out how the Fn- function key works and
deactivate the Fn-Fx combination responsible for your keyboard behavior..(this article was posted by k24674)..
or else u r keyboard is likely to b defective or ur ram or the system board..
lightly strike/tap the keypad using ur hand..
if
u r a professional, open the keyboard..deep clean all the carbon
contacts beneath the keys using Iso-Propyl alcohol..put/stick
'Carbon-Dots' (available in cheap level spare market) as n where
necessary..
hope it'll work..
always better to seek professional supervision esp of ur system admin/vendor....
