Ruud UAKB-018JAZ outside condensing unit will not run

Ruud UAKB-018JAZ outside condensing unit will not turn on when temperature goes above thermostat setting. Inside Fan does turn on. If I manually push outside unit relay solenoid core down so contacts engage it runs fine

thanks you for your response. It is the contactor solenoid core I pushed to make it run. As far as I can tell from tracing the 24 VAC control wired, they come directly from a terminal strip on top of the heater/condenser unit inside the apartment. Ther are no HP or LP switches that I can determine. it is s simple Ruud 10seer 1.5 ton. The voltage on the control wire fluctuates between about 4 to 15 volts AC. Could the solenoid coil or a grounded control wire cause this?

Trace the wires (small cable) going to the out door unit. This is your 24v control circuit. when it enters the outdoor unit it ties to wires routing through the inside of the unit trace these down. For AC units 1 usually goes directly to the "contactor" (the item you push in and the unit runs?) the other wire can also go to the other side of this same item. But I suspect it goes through other tings before it finally gets there.
Some items are the high and low pressure switches and a delay timer.
A red button sticking out where you can reset it is the high pressure switch and if it clicks and lets it come on you may have a dirty outdoor coil or a fan motor outdoor that is not operating all time.
A low pressure switch has no reset normally on AC or HP.
A delay timer will have 2 3 or 4 wires depending on the type of timer. 1 of these wires goes to the contactor (usually) and one of them feed this wire. remove the wire going to the contactor. now 1 at a time take the other timer wires and touch them to the wire just removed. if the times is bad the contactor will click when you touch one of them with the removed wire.

If its a heat pump you will have to make the contactor try to come on around the board. and this you will need some knowledge on which and what feeds your contactor. Here Id suggest a technician. If I had a way to see your setup and wiring I could talk you through this but its too hard to type and would take way too long.

Ruud unit the fan will not turn on for the "cool" setting, but will turn on for the "heat" setting, any ideas of potential issues?

Hello, does the outside condensing unit start when the thermostat is set to cool? if so, the relay on the integrated control board is bad and the board must be replaced. If the outside unit does not start then most likely the thermostat is bad.

Ruud uhqa sill runs when i turn off t stat contactor test good and is not stuckhit breaker and back on and fan stops running goes on when t stat is turned on stays on till i trip breaker again i think it...

Your sentence is hard to understand because there is no punctuation. But, I think you are saying that the Outside unit is still running when the inside unit is off and the Thermostat indicates it should be off. If so, you have a stuck relay outside in the compressor/condenser unit. This is common. The contacts get hot and fuse themselves together. You will have to remove the cover on the unit outside to expose the relay. MAKE SURE THE BREAKER IS OFF. If you house is to code there will be a disconnect box on the wall just above the AC unit outside. PULL THE DISCONNECT> then use a flat head screw driver and slight pry the contacts apart. If they are fused very tight you may need to replace the relay. If they break free put every thing back together and you're done. If you this happens again soon you will need to replace relay.

I have ruud heatpump and it is covered in ice and it does not seem to be defrosting what could this be?

The defrost sensor attached to the outside coil is defective and or the defrost control board in the outside unit is defective.

To defrost the unit, turn the thermostat to cool and lower the temperature as low as it will go. Run in the cool mode until the coils defrost. Then return to heat mode.

Rheem Heat Pump outside fan seems to be running 24 hours per day. Outside temp 23 degrees. Is this normal? Model #RPKA-018JAZ

no this is not normal. the fan should stop running when the thermostat is satisfied or when the heat pump goes into defrost mode. if it is running nonstop, there is a contactor that operates the fan and compressor that if it sticks will get line voltage to it. you would have to take the cover off of the outside unit and turn the thermostat to off. If the fan continues to run, you need a new contactor.

My Ruud outside condensing unit stops running when the outside temperature get about 90 degrees. I can push the reset switch and it runs fine until the next time the temperature gets that high. What can...

Check condensor coil to see if it is dirty. It is kicking off on high head. Take a water hose and wash the coils this will help. Take the cover off and wash the coils by the compressor those get the dirtiest. TURN OFF POWER FIRST. Russ

Air conditioner shuts off early.

Hi, thermostats is not problem , it's asking for cooling when it should, it's your condensing unit outside, if mechanics said, system is o/k. then it's location of condensing unit, check location of your condensing unit, in relation to direct sunlight, condensing unit best location is always a cool place, preferable away from direct sunlight, check to see, when unit is doing that, if it's expose to direct sunlight, that could be your problem, direct sunlight for long periods could cause the high pressure & temp. controls malfunction. or maybe system is not fully charge with freon, double check freon charge. if direct sunlight is your problem, build a shade or change location of condensing unit, good luck.
