I have come across the same problem with my theater system. Some CD's and DVD's are not 5.1 surround compatible and wont play through the sub and then others will but wont work through the rear speakers. I did switch modes to see what would happen on mine the mode was Matrix II and i went from having sound in rear speakers and no sub to vice versa but could not get it to play through both. Hope it helps.

Setup the Onkyo Audyssey speaker and the subwoofer is set to yes at 80hz and all other speakers at Full band.
Onkyo has 2 subwoofer inputs, connect to the multichannel subwoofer.
The RCA connector for the sub should be plugged in just like it was a normal powered sub, since it is.
Where have you got it plugged in at the moment?

Thanks
Kevin

My harman kardon player will read blurays, however it wont read dvds. Any idea why?

More than likely the lens that read dvd discs has failed. On blu-ray players, there are two (2) optical lens. One reads blu-rays and the other dvd/cds. They are independent of one another.

I need the latest blue ray disc standards?

BlueRay's come with three Region codes = A , B & C. They also come in two color formats NTSC and PAL. Blue rays not only have high definition video but also HD sound. To decode this you will need new generation Home Theater systems with Dolby True HD and DTS Master Audio decoders. Here under is region code Map.

Standard DVDSs are read by a red laser while blue ray DVDs are read by a blue laser (hence the name). The blue laser diode is likely to be faulty and therefore standard dvds work but blue ray dvds do not. This is not an easily obtainable or replaceable part.

Connect an optical lead from the sky hd box to the Samsung Blue Ray.
Then change the function button on the Blue Ray to Din 1.
Then change settings on Sky HD box to Dolby and this worked.

My ps3 wont play blu ray movies or games but cds and dvds work fine

The Blu Ray Diode fried when you shut the power switch on in the back. The PS3 uses 2 different lasers to read disks. One for standard dvd's and cd's and one for Blu Ray. The only way to fix your PS3 is to replace the Blue Ray Diode or laser lens. I would recommend paying the $150 bucks to have sony replace unless you know something about Diodes and lasers.
If you hold down the eject button for 10 seconds it will reset your laser and then you should be able to shut the power down in back safetly.
Formatting and or resetting the hard drive won't do a thing if your diode is fried.
I found a work-around to get it to read discs though. You have to have a bluray disc in the drive (game or movie) and start a downloaded game or Playstation Home. Once the game or Home loads, hit the PS button on the controller. The crossbar menu will pull up and you will notice the disc icon will (magically) pop up. Click the quit game icon. Once you are out of the downloaded game or Home the disc icon will still be there. You can then load the game or disc. The icon will remain there until you eject the disc, so you will have to repeat this every time you want to load a game.

Check What Resolution You Have Saved On the PS3 Maybe When It goes Blu-Ray Its To High Res For The Standard TV..
if you felt i have spent my time to help you... a very helpful rating is appreciated for answering ur query...

PS3 80g only plays DVDs and PS2 games .... help

The reason why DVDS still work and the blu-rays don't is because it's a three part laser. dvd / cd / blu-ray.

The blu-ray portion almost always goes out first.
