Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner
I have an 18000 BTU Frigidaire Gallery room air conditioner. We've had it for 6 years but last year it started spewing black flakes at the beginning of the season. The flakes seem to turn to dust if you touch them so we carefully vacuum them or they smear into our furniture and carpet.
No matter how hard we tried to clean it we could not stop it. After a month or more the flakes seemed to diminish. I just started it for the first time this year and the problem is back - black flakes all over our living room.

SOURCE: heat strip installation
It was quite simple, just installing the heat strip and my model only required removing the grill cover and mounting the element. The other optional installations didn't apply to my model.

Since your RV A/C works O.K. when plugged in to the land line and the trip happens when you run it on your generator the problem may be related to the generator output. It is possible that the power being supplied by the generator is not handling the surge when the A/C starts. Starting Amperage on start up is about 5 times the running Amperage for about 3 seconds until the compressor comes up to its rated speed.

Check at the compressor terminals between the Red and the terminal for the overload protector to see if you are getting power to the compressor on startup.

The rule of thumb is 20F difference (lower) than ambient temperature. Most manufacturers will tell you 20 F degress is about normal. In your case it does sound a little warm, but I need to ask, sorry. Was it working o.k. before in same basic temperatures? Have you cleaned coils & fins good on Evaporator & condenser recently? Have you removed filter inside & cleaned it as well, and looked to see if coils are frosting up by chance? Is this a ducted or non ducted system? I'm guessing on a 5th wheel, it is ducted, so make sure you have good discharge on all of those as well. Any blockage or restriction on the discharge side will also cause the problem. Keep me posted on what you find.
