Question about Gaggia Syncrony Compact Coffee Maker/Espresso Machine

1 Answer

I have a Gaggia Evolution expresso maker about 8 years old. When button is pressed to start motor it just hums and no hot water comes out. The motor only runs if I open the steam outlet

I cannot get access to the inside of the machine so I presume I need some sort of cleaner that may solve the problem

Try this, under the grouphead, there is a screw and screen, remove those, and check screen to see if it is clogged, when screen is removed press button to brew, if water flows freely then problem is at the screen, if no water flows, then it is on the inside of the machine. You will have to run a descale cycle to clear out machine. Check the folling pic for the screen location.I have a Gaggia Evolution expresso maker about 8 - 2722dbe.jpg

The pump does not run water through the filter head. It makes a noise and pumps the hot water back into the water tank

Almost certainly due to the reverse side of the brewhead being scaled up. The evolution has a recess on the reverse of the head that block causing no water to come out. Remove the head and clean it off.

Gaggia evolution not producing coffee

One question before I make any suggestions: If you remove the shower screen and screw, do you get a nice flow of water or is it still steam?
If you get a nice flow of water, then check your screen hold it up to the light and you should be able to see through the tiny holes, if not, get a pair of needle nose pliers and being very careful hold screen over an open flame like the stove burner. The coffee will burn before the anything happens to the metal. When it is cooled screw into group and see if the flow of water is better.
If you get nothing but steam then it is time to descale the machine.

Hot water

Have you kept up with descaling?

Probably the water heater has failed. If you're technical then most parts should be replaceable but you may have to order them from Gaggia in Italy.

Hi,

You need a bellows pump or similar, when you start the pump you need to set the pump to the water inlet and press in the water with force.
