Walk away from it. Unless your getting it dirt cheap. Tapping is top end, Head job. Not cheap. Knocking is bottom end. replace the engine.

If you are having trouble w/ the top. Check to make sure the central locking system is working properly. Also as on my Cabri, try locking the trunk 1st. Hope this helps

In mine the wiring in the trunk was bad. At the right hinge of the trunk there is a wiring harness for the top. After alot of opening and closing the wires break.

need to check speedo sensor or drive gear in gearbox is connected,may have been disconnected after work was done,or the sensor has packed up,unlikley to be speedo itself if its been ok in the past

Yes if you go into the trunk you will find a small passage to get to the pump there will be a little T- shaped knob on top turn this untill it stops and you will be able to lift the top to close it.

Check the fuse and make sure the box connections are tight.

I had that same problem on a 1990 audi 90.

Turns out the radiator was leaking, so the coolant kept running out causing the temp light to go on. as a temporary fix, you can keep topping up the coolant, but otherwise you are going to need to get that radiator fixed. by the way, audi 90s have TWO radiators; in my case it was the smaller radiator that had gone. 

new radiator later, and it was fixed. unfortunatley, my temp gauge has never work...

Had a similar problem audi come into my shop.  No headlights, blower motor would not work, wipers would not work.  After dinking around found ignition switch wires had burn't up.  Remove top steering column by taking out two very small philips screws from under column.  Look at top LH side of column w/ top cover removed.  Probably will find wires burnt up.  

I would check the fuel filter if you haven't already done so.
