I can log into Netflix but the program only appears as a very small box at the top of the computer. The rest of the screen is grey/black. Just started happening.
Make sure all programs that are required to run Netflix on a computer are up-to-date.
You may want to try and update MS Silverlight that maybe the cause if that doesn't work see if your screen or video adapters need to be updated through device manager.
Hope that helps.

Hello yoyoxide.
from my experience can be something related with the video card. I recommend you the followig (Hardware diagnostics):
-Look for one of the discs that came with your computer, it should say (Drivers & utilities).
-Boot from the CD. If you don't know how to do it do the following:
1.Insert the Drivers&Utilities Disk.
2.Restart teh computer.
3. When you get the Dell logo, press F12
4.Select Boot from CD/CDRW-DVD (something like that).
-You will get a prompt to run the diagnosics.
-Just follow the wizard
-I recommend you to run diagnostics for everything.
-You will see if you have any problems with your hardware.
It seems that you have a pretty new laptop, so probably it's under warranty.

This has nothing to do with Netflix, you would get the same result with any DVD regardless of its origin. Chances are that is the laptop trying to revert to a screen saver or power save mode during the movie.
Check your laptop's power and screen saver settings. If you are experiencing the problem every 3 minutes or so, your screen saver is most likely scheduled to go on after 3 minutes of inactivity. The same goes for your monitor-- it may try to dim or turn off after a certain amount of time.
To change these settings to a longer delay, go to your desktop and right click. Select "Properties". Choose the "screen saver" tab, and change the "wait:" field to a higher number. Or, just turn the screen saver off by selecting "(none)" under the screen saver dropbox. You may also click "Power" and change the time for "turn off monitor" to "never", or a longer amount of time.

If the screen is breaking up into multiple screens, the video resolution isn't set correctly. Change the video properties back to the native resolution.
Right-click on an empty area of your desktop screen. Click on Properties at the bottom. Now click on the Settings tab.
The Screen Resolution slider should be all the way to the right, close to -> More.
The Colors should be set to the highest setting.
When you close the lid, you may have your laptop set to Sleep Mode, check that. You may also have your screen saver set to Blank, and no screen saver has been chosen.
(1.Screen Saver: Right-click on empty area of desktop>Properties>Screen Saver.
2.Sleep Mode: Start>Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance>Power Options>Power Buttons>When I press the sleep button on my computer>Then choose what you want it to do)
If none of this helps, I suggest you have a problem that HP needs to repair. Since you bought this dv9700t last July, would I be correct in assuming it's still under warranty?

Hi,
This problem occurs due power fluctuations and over heat .You have to change the laptop screen .No other way to go..
