hello, i have a problem with my pc. my friend gave me a 128 mb geforce4 mx with agp 8x, however after installing its software and restarting my computer, i cannot get into the windows desktop. It hangs on the blue ''welcome'' screen. please help, i'm afraid that if i buy a new videocard, same problem will occur.

- thanks seth. There's a display output if my monitor was plugged into this card, sadly, after installing its driver, it hangs. I already uninstalled its driver, have a fresh copy of it from nvdia and installed it, but same problem occured. I tried to set my motherboard on "fail safe mode" and it works, my screen doesn't hang anymore but it is so slow. what is the problem, is it my vcard or my motherboard? thanks. (",)

- The NVIDIA Smart Scan was unable to evaluate your system hardware. Please use Option 1 to manually find drivers for your NVIDIA products.--NVIDIA. So i manually select the driver. yup it is the correct driver, i also have here the cd of the vcard.
This pc originally have no videocard, only the onboard. This pc previously was not mine, they gave it to me, so I'm trying to maximize it rather than buying a new one. (",)

Sounds to me like either the card is bad or you have a corrupt driver. If you remove the card will it start? then it is a bad card. If you uninstall driver either through safe mode (hold F8 at powerup before windows starts) or restore to last known working config (also F8). I suggest you go to nvidia website to download your drivers. let me know if you are still stuck, we'll work it out.

- That is slightly strange. I have to ask if you are installing the right driver for the right operating system. Can you start in safe mode under the same conditions as it hangs in? do me a favor and installa nd run belarc, give me the full make and model of the mobo

- This is intriguiing to me at 4:00 in the morning lol. in safe mode you are using using generic vga drivers. Boot in safe mode , click star, run then type sfc /scannow, this will check the integrity of protected system files but you will need your operating system cd. There has to be a problem with your driver somewhere, are you plugged into the card this whole time?

- not 100% sure if this will work in safe mode or not but you can try. Right click on the desktop, clicking Settings, Advanced , then clicking the Troubleshooting tab. Then turn off Write combining.

- Not sure where you are but if it is not working yet, uninstall your driver(safe mode) , restart your computer and install these updates for your mobo, reinstall your driver then restart again.
