First you have to remove the trim from the top, there are two screws holding that and then a bit of gentle prying/wiggling. If you're having trouble with the unit randomly resetting, try torquing the exposed screws behind the control panel. The important one is probably the grounding point. It seems to have done the trick for me, three weeks and no SE- codes.

Where is the fuse for whirlpool microwave model number WMH31017HZ07.

The fuse for the Whirlpool microwave model WMH31017HZ07 is located inside the microwave oven. You will need to remove the outer cover of the microwave to access the fuse. Here are the steps to follow:
  1. Unplug the microwave from the power source.
  2. Remove the screws on the top of the microwave that hold the top grill in place. Remove the grill.
  3. Locate the screws that hold the control panel in place. Remove the screws and carefully pull the control panel forward.
  4. Locate the fuse holder on the right side of the control panel. Remove the fuse holder by pulling it out.
  5. Check the fuse to see if it is blown. If it is, replace it with a new fuse of the same type and rating.
  6. Reinstall the fuse holder, control panel, and top grill.
  7. Plug the microwave back in and test to see if the light is working.
If the light still does not turn on after replacing the fuse, there may be another issue with the microwave and it may require further troubleshooting or repair.

My smh8165 microwave stopped working and the display says "SE" and is less then a year old

Unplug microwave. Remove (2) flat head machine screws on the top of the microwave holding in the top front trim. My trim slid left and gently pulling was removed. The control panel has (1) screw holding it in. Remove screw, slide up and gently pulling detach from microwave. There are (5) electrical disconnects which need to be disconnected. Do not force they should come easily. Lay control panel on and old towel. Squirt both the male and female connections(in microwave control panel opening) with electrical cleaner. Carefully clean up excess. Connect the (5) quick disconnects and carfully fit back in the control panel opening. Attach screw. Place top trim in and slide right to lock. Once it is in secure the top two screws. Clean area and plug back in. Hopefully your up and running. These pieces break real easy so don't force anything.

The microwave control panel suddenly went blank. I checked the power at the outlet and it is fine. There wer eno fault codes or anything else - my guess is that the control panel failed

If the microwave control panel doesn't light up, then your fuse is blown. unplug the microwave. unscrew the vent grill, (2) screws at the top of the microwave. then you should see 1 screw holding the control panel. after removing that screw, gently push up then out. there should be a metal plate on top of the control panel. remove that plate and the fuse will be in that opening. remove the fuse and check for continuity across the fuse. you can also take a bit from a screw driver or drill and place it in the fuse holder. then plug the microwave back in, and it should come on.

Removing the control panel on the 1800XL to replace the fuse

Unplug microwave. Remove the two phillips head screws from the top at the very front edge, allowing you to remove the top grill. This will give you access to the one remaining screw holding the control panel in place. Lift panel up a bit and you're in. Note: even an unplugged microwave can hold a nasty electrical charge if the bleeder resister inside the capacitor is bad. Be cautious and don't touch things unnecessarily.
