Question about Husqvarna Chain Saw 20" Bar

Husqvarna 141 piston ring, what is the required gap for the ring? Also, does it matter which way the piston is positioned in the cylinder, there is no arrow or difference that I can tell by looking at it.

Thanks remix001 however, my question was "how much gap should the piston ring have, or are they preset from the factory? and does it matter with the 141 which direction the piston should face, there appears to be no difference on either side."no arrow either"

It's been a few years but I've installed piston rings in many small engines. Many rings are beveled or rounded on the top outside to prevent excessive cylinder wear or scaring the cylinder wall. The bevel should be very slight and very hard so see. Some may have a small dot or marking cast into the ring near the end/split. If that is the case the ring should be installed with the marking turned toward the cylinderhead. Hint, lube the piston, rings, and cylinderwall before installing the piston. Gene

I'm replacing piston ring on husqvarna model 240 chainsaw. I would like to know if bevel edge on ring ends face up or down on piston

Most 2 cycles have a pin in the piston groove that keeps the ring from traveling. The pin location (upper groove, lower groove position) will give you the indication. Most 2 cycle rings have an L shaped cut in the very end that mates with the pin in the groove. Otherwise the piston/ring assembly will not fit into the cylinder.

Motorcycle is losing compression and noisy

if it is a water cooled engine the ring gap at the bottom of the cylinder should be around .010"
rings have to be installed the correct way up or the compression doesn't help push the rings against the cylinder walls for effective seal
piston skirts will touch the cylinder walls as the pressure pushes the piston to one side as it pushes the piston back down the cylinder
I have to ask did you put an old piston back in the new cylinder
was the new cylinder standard size or over size
what was the ring gap before you fitted them to the piston
did you use new rings or the old ones --maximum rin gap is .025"
rings don't wear in , just wear out
why did you replace the cylinder in the first place
was it because of low compression or taper wear
as silly as all this seams it is all very relevant to your question

How to clockwise the piston rings in gx 270

By clockwise piston ring do you mean clocking the piston rings?
If this is what you asking, that means the rings have gaps. when istalling them the gaps should not be aligned. If they are you will burn oil severely, the gaps are an open path for the oil to pump right on through to the combustion chamber. These gaps should be set approxamately 90 degrees apart. by the picture start with the wiper rings or bottom one move the 2nd ring approx. 1/4 turn or 90 degrees and repeat one more time with the upper ring. Now you can install the piston.

Please note that higher mileage vehicles have ridge or a raised ring
that you can feel with your finger nail at the top of the cylinder. This ridge will break the hardened steel rings if they are forced in the cylinder. Note: If the bore is not honed smooth or this ridge has not been removed and the cylinder is not honed all this work will not fix your problem. Doing this repair requires all new surfaces to seat and the oil should be changed after approx. 1000 miles be carefull with the oil addatives they may prevent the rings from seating. There are non detergent oils available for the break in period.

The reason for the change is to get the metal particulates out of the oil by replacing the filter and new oil.

Good luck I hope this helps solve your dilema.

Are you getting a spark..? - NO? check wiring loom from ignition module, check timing gap between flywheel and ignition module, check on/off switch.
Does it have compression.? - NO? then check piston/rings and cylinder
Is fuel getting to the cylinder.? - NO? Carb problem of fuel line issue

I am replacing the cylinder, piston, and ring on my 128LDX. What is the procedure for inserting the piston into the head?

You should be able to pinch the rings in with your fingers and slide the cylinder over the top, just make sure the rings are lined up with the relative locating pins on the piston.

Husqvarna 250 Brush Cutter Piston and Head Scratched

the cylinder if it has small scuff marks can be honed out using a large brake cylinder honer in an electric drill
scratches on the piston can be removed using emery paper
the ring/ s need to be replaced
remember that the rings are pinned in position when being assembled to keep the eng gap away from the port holes
your statement indicates that it was run with out the correct oil ratio so check for big end and little end bearing coloring ( blue or tan color) before assembly

Rebuilding 268 husky does it matter how the piston ring gap face , toward intake or exhaust port, and should i rougg old cylinder with steel wool?

point the ring gap toward nothing! in between exhaust and intake,......it would serve your rebuild best to bring the jug to a power tool shop where they can "hone" your cylinder properly,..your on the right track with knowing the need to "scuff up" the cylinder, but it should be done with the proper honing tool which is a grinding stone, your rings will love it, you'll actually notice a gain in power with the proper cut. have fun, cracklin joe

Need diagram of husqvarna 141

Not sure why you would need these! This is a really simple process. Remove bar and chain brake cover. Disconnect choke and throttle lever, muffler, and 4 screws with your allen wrench, i've never even attempted it before and just took my about an hour to complete the entire process. Just make sure to note how carb goes together, you can mix a few parts up if your not careful.

You can find aftermarket kits to with cylinder, pistion, rings and all for around $60-100.

Piston rings

First, be sure they actually do fit the bore. Take a ring and insert it in the bore. push the ring halfway into the bore using the piston. There should be about a 1/32" gap in the ring. Anything more than 1/16" and you need rings the next size up. If the ring won't go into the cylinder because the gap fully closes, the rings need to be a smaller size.

With the correct size rings, put them on the piston. Some pistons have an index pin in the ring groove Fit the gap to the pin. Put the piston mid-stroke and place the cylinder over the top of the piston. Squeeze the rings closed as you gently tap the cylinder downward and over the rings.

Please rate this solution. Thanks garethholleb!
